Metallica's new album: Death Magnetic

Oh yeah FM any chance you could change the title of the thread to the correct album name when you get a spare mo?

It get's better, the riffs sounds more er riffy and the vocals have a bit more melody in them. The funky beat stomp appears nicely in Cyanide, love the base line. Album gone from a 5/10 (5 being the average) to a 6 leaning toward 7 now...

Ooooh The Judas Kiss is pretty fucking good! Really like that singy bit (you'll know when it hits) it almost sounds like something Queen/Freddie Mercury would have sung!

I've got a £5 ticket for thier gig on Monday :D I haven't seem them since 1995 and I'm really looking forward to it. I'll have to spend the rest of the weekend familiarising myself with the new material.

This setlist for tonight's Berlin show was posted on the mission metallica forum and there's some classics in there:

01. That Was Just Your Life
02. The End Of The Line
03. The Thing That Should Not Be
04. Of Wolf And Man
05. One
06. Broken, Beat and Scarred
07. Cyanide
08. Frantic
09. Until It Sleeps
10. Wherever I May Roam
11. For Whom The Bell Tolls
12. The Day That Never Comes
13. Master Of Puppets
14. Blackened
15. Blitzkrieg
16. Jump In The Fire

Mm, wasn't all that keen on that, but Suicide & Redemption is decently riffy. It does sound, though, like someone trying to squeeze a lot of fairly different ones into one track, it's not very consistent.

I'd definitely go and see them live regardless of what I think of the album. I last went when I was a teenager and I ended up half deaf and with my neck almost entirely useless due to excessive moshing :D Seriously, I had to hold my head up with my hands.

Yeah S&R has a pretty cool lead guitar bit in it...quite nice...yeah I know what you mean but this is a world if not a universe away from St Anger (which was one fucked up mess of fifteen different songs in each track) in that way.

You lucky fucker! Fuck me that's some set and big LOL that only one tune from St Anger got on the set list (it's the only one worthy bothering with on that album imo too)!!:D

Some Metallica stuff upcoming along with the o2 gig:

London
Sunday, September 14 - An intimate gig at the BBC Radio Theatre . . . again, if you're a Clubber, check the site for details on how to win tickets.

Monday, September 15 - FIVE hours of special coverage on Radio 1 including interviews with the guys and a broadcast of the show from the night before. You can listen live to these programs or listen at your leisure for seven days afterwards online at www.bbc.co.uk/radio1.

And of course it's the night of the second "Death Magnetic" release party at the 02 Arena. Unfortunately, this show is now sold out.

Tuesday, September 16 - The band visits "Later with Jools Holland" and there is a live 'taster' show that night on BBC2 from 10-10:30pm with the band playing one track. The full hour long show goes out on Friday, September 19 on BBC2 11:30pm, followed by a repeat of the Metallica "Culture Show" special.

I hope it's a great album. They haven't released anything great since Master of puppets in my opinion.

Seconded. Bits of ".... And Justice for All" and the Black Album were good, but "Master of Puppets" remains their finest moment.

This album has had some good reviews .... I might borrow a copy and then buy my own if it's any good.

My mate has a ticket to the O2, but he's done his back in. I suspect painkillers will get him there but if they don't.... :D

Apparently, as it's a "paperless ticket" event, only the person who bought the tickets can pick them up, and will need the confirmation email, photo id and the card used.

Cannot wait until wait until tomorrow! \m/ o o \m/

Listened to the new one twice now. Not bad.

It does sound in places like highlights/good bits of other albums stitched together - Lars saying this and that went down well on our "good" albums...let's chuck in the kitchen sink this time.

Hetfield's pub singer---------------AH! ennuciation is back with a vengeance-----AH!

Probably need a few more days with it, but on the whole, not too bad on first impressions. Some great, tight riffing.

I heard a few times on headphones and thought ok not bad. Put it on the hifi yesterday and found myself getting more into it. Seems to sound better coming out of the speakers...something really live sounding about it.

Is death magnetic worth buying? Ive been tempted too....... but am in fear incase i thought it was shit...... Ive heard cyanide and unforgiven III and liked those tracks however.

like all great albums, this one is defo a grower.
i now love every track - even the joe satriani-like instrumental!

it's great to see them back...
