Metal Kingz, who are yours?

As Denim n' Leather metallers me and my teenage mates would have been horrified to discover that our look had been inspired by Rob Halfords interest in gay bondage :D

As similar young denim & mettalers, we never had any illusions about Halford's preferences. :D

I found a Saxon 'crusader' tour tshirt the other day at the back of an old drawer...had knights in armour on it, very fetching.

There could be a whole thread on your fave tour tshirts.

Really...........I saw them at donnington, when ACDC headlined.....bloody brilliant......Empire is a top top albumn. What was it about them that was soo different, even now they sound fresh...??;)

Bad News.

"I thought Bad News set a new high in altruistic, self-indulgent, bullshit, mollycoddled, you know... mother-my-dark-instinct rock 'n' roll. I thought it was a piece of pimply shit from the worst kind of city ghetto, probably populated by winos, junkies and just general all-round fuck-ups." Lemmy

Any discussion about the greatest metal bands just has to include Blue Oyster Cult, their first 3 albums were as ground breaking as anything Sabbath ever did.

Harvester Of Eyes, ME 262, Subhuman, Flaming Telepaths, Hot Rails To Hell,
Screaming Dizbusters, Cities On Flame

All stone cold classics

you're kidding, right? were they even metal?

Lazy raaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawk from acts like BoC allowed the new breed of metallers to break through - people knew there had to be more to aggressive music/heavy metal than band slike that.

When I think of all the vinyl wasted on a one song band, I could weep.

BoC? Garbage.

Sandy Pearlman their manager at the time claimed that he invented the term "Heavy Metal" to specifically describe their music, so yes they were metal, possibly the originals if you believe him.

Of course the music attributed to the genre has changed hugely since 1969 so they probably don't fit with the modern image but they definitely were heavy metal back then.

They were shit from Mirrors onwards I'd agree but prior to that they were one of the best.

Sandy Pearlman?

I'd suggest either Steppenwolf or William Burroughs.

Sandy Pearlman and The Clash. Lol.

I like the first BOC lp, it does rock, and its wierd! its not all AOR until the late 70s....(although I like fire of unknown origin and mirrors as well)...

black sabbath
mastodon definitely worth a mention
and of course...conquest of steel

and in the 'aargh, it's just noise' category:
iron monkey

Wheres Haylz :D

Twice I saw them

Me too, both times in 1983 I think. They were pretty good live, even though they looked pretty ancient even back then :) Second time was at a mini-festival at Leeds Queens Hall with Twisted Sister, Girlschool, Anvil, and a couple of other not-so-good bands we won't bother talking about, lol

Am I thinking of someone else?

you might be thinking of GnR or someone like that.

If you liked the thrash sub-genre, then Sepultura were the nuts in the early to mid 1990s.

Of course, not all metal-heads like every sub-genre thats been spawned, and the ones who dislike thrash will think sepultura were a pile of crap.

Different strokes I guess.
