Mesrine

Slightly disappointed with second. Mainly editing-doesn't stand on its own, could have done with different choice of duplicate scences. Still worth it if you have seen the first one. Also body shape. That's a serious commitment to acting

i assume your refering to the start/end scene?
i thought both were excellent.

Hugely overrated, I thought.

Went to the double bill at the Prince Charles yesterday, left with half an hour of the first film to go & didn't bother with the second at all.

I probably could have sat it out but the person I went with wanted to go, which was entirely fair enough IMO.

I thought both films were great but the first one was so brilliant that the second one was bound to disappoint to some extent - very similar to how Che pt. 2 was a disappointment after the first one IMO. But the second parts were still good films, and had to be seen to complete the stories.

Saw this at my local flicks last night and really enjoyed it. Looking forward to part 2 next month. :)

WAOW.
I just watched it. I didn't expect a 2 disc film. It is essentially one film though, just split over two discs.

But waow. The humour in scenes (court scene quite memorable) But also really horrid scenes (moment he sticks the gun in his first wife's mouth. The film made get up and pay full attention. i love the scene where he goes back to the prison to shoot up the guards and such. Funny scene when they cross the river, lose a bag of money only to find a boat. So many things, the tension in some parts as well, just....breathtaking. What a character.

HIGHLY recommend it for any lovers of the crime gangster genre.

It is necessary to see both parts. The second undermines the heroics of the first part. I started to realise that the guy was partly constructing his own myth. It made me question how much of the first was real or his version as relayed to his biographer.

I was fortunate to see both parts together with a short interval in between. Works best that way imo.

Just finished part 1. Good film. Looking forward to part 2 next weekend. Missed the first 15 mins though - anything that I need to know in there?

how the fuck can someone relay a version of their life to their autobiographer? do you have any idea who wrote jacques mesrine's autobiography?

Did he deliberately live his life as a tribute to Bonnie and Clyde and the Great Escape?

I think that's how he wanted it to be seen. I do not think the viewer is meant to take what is seen on screen as gospel. It is partly his view of himself you are seeing.
