Flaming lips just edge it I reckon. Mercury Rev's first three albums are bloody brilliant (although they fall firmly into the 'acquired taste' category) but I can't think of a trio of albums I love quite as much as transmissions from the satellite heart, hit to death in the future head and clouds taste metallic. Although it's worth remembering that hit to death features Jonathon Donahue on guitars and was recorded at the same time he was making 'yerself is steam'.

And then there's 'yoshimi battles the pink robots', the best album of the 21st century so far IMHO...

Steam over Hit to Death everytime,
and, by the same skewed logic, possibly Boces over Satellite Heart as well.
:hmm:

Yoshimi is not even the Lips best record never mind album of the century so far....................

This thread has made me think back to when I first truly fell in love with the F'Lips ... reckon it was probably when I first saw them live at The Reading Festival in 1999 ... remembered that there was another act headlining above them on the Radio 1 stage but couldn't remember who it was until I googled it ... turns out it was Mansun!! Ha!!! :D

I dont get Flaming Lips. I really liked Soft Bulliten but the rest I'm not that keen on. Its all a bit "whacky".

i've got that yoshi rubbish somewhere...i'll try paying it after my yoga class, and ten spliffs.

In one of those flotation tanks is the most relaxing, foo.

Plus your head's underwater so you don't have to listen to it. :)

'relax a little bit'?

you're funny :D

I am funny.
the Flaming Lips are, as the Rev points out, FUN.
not 'whacky', which would be a ghastly business all round.
I can't really think of an amusing way to explain why you're wrong to see it that way though - it'd be a difficult and tedious argument - but you are :)
