Mercury Prize 2009

They're losing relevance fast so why not just give it to Bono and go out in a blaze of Dadaist glory.
 
out of that list i think the horrors should get it. the only other album i have from that is the glasvegas one, which i like a lot but not love.

i think florence and the machine are well boring. sorry, eg :(
 
I'd go with Glasvegas and Horrors, even if the sound of the first got old (which was expected, TBH) quite soon. Must say I'm surprised with the absence of the Super Furry Animals - DD/LY is still my favourite record of the year (Horrors come second, Röyksopp third).

I think I'll look into them tonight. While I rarely agree with the winner, there's always some good records on it.
 
Led Bib are awesome by the way, you should all look them up. Absolutely no way they'll win, they're just in there as the token 'not boring indie dreck' nomination :(

e2a: I do quite like that La Roux album, but a classic it ain't.

Haha that video is creepy. I know she probably seems a bit pre-meditated kooky and stuff, maybe she is, I don't really care I just think it's nice to have someone who wears weirdy stuff and sings weirdy songs.

I read an article about her at the weekend and she was wearing a skirt made of hair. :cool:
 
haven't heard of any of those albums

the lineups back in the day usually had 4 or 5 albums i liked on, it can't just be that i don't listen to pop music so much anymore, it's always just indie shit nowadays
 
The mecury prize can be a bit of a poisoned chalice anyway. IIRC a few winners have gone onto obscurity and pub-gigs.

Years ago a friend of mine wrote to Nike with his suggestion for the Nike Air Gein. Their reply was a fuckin classic. :D

Do you not think this is because indie is something that you grow out of???

I agree with you when you say that back in the day there would be 4 or 5 albums that you rate, but now it's just....... boring.

Indie is a good way to spend your youth but there comes a time when better forms of music tickle ones bollocks.
 
I like Le Roux and Florence..., was a bit nonplussed by the Bat for Lashes effort although I liked the first record.

Not heard the rest tbh.

nah, but i still rate a lot of those albums that were in the lists back in the day, and they weren't all indie

roni size = new forms
pulp - different class
primal scream - screamadelica
tricky - maxinequaye
prodigy - jilted generation

i don't think all of them even won and i'd still listen to all of them

it isn't like there aren't any decent albums coming out, just that they aren't picking them anymore....

i think dizzee rascal was the last decent one that won
