Think it might be Bloc Party.. or MIA ... Then again the Kaiser Chiefs will probably win it. No I think i'll go Bloc Party.

Hopefully if Coldplay do win it'll be a career-killer. Nothing would please the ears of sane people more.

To be quite honest I couldn't give a toss who wins. I never understand how the Mercury got this authoratative kudos above any other industry funded award. It's a bit weird. Plus I'm very annoyed Kano wasn't nominated as "Home Sweet Home" is great.

Of those previous winners who do we think is the best? I say Portishead.

I'm keeping an eye on Betfair for this one: currently got money on MIA at 8.6, will stick a bit on the Go! Team later, poss Ant & the Johnsons too (both 7ish)

Last year was angular indie year: this year I think it'll be back to something a bit more interesting. K Chiefs are still huge favs at 3.2 but I can't see them winning tbh.

The only other contenders are Magic Numbers (11.0), Hard-Fi (14.5) & Bloc Party (18.0). Coldplay are way out on 60.0!

It should be quite easy to make a few bob on this - unless the Kaiser Chiefs win. *crosses fingers* :)

Watching it now....
KT Tunstalls doing her solo version of Black Horse and the cherry tree
(Where she records the backing track on pedals while she's playing it)

It's on BBC4 btw

Wish I could get reception - I'm having to suffer Colin & Edith on R1.

*betting update*

It's pretty static at the moment - apart from the Magic Numbers who've come right in to 5.0. Interesting...

I've got money on MIA, Go! Team & Magic Numbers at the mo'. A quick saver on A&J and I think I'm done.

REALLY hope the Kaiser Chiefs don't win. :D

I'm being subjected to this by krs.

Polar Bear?! wtf was all that about?!

Bloc Party: as shite as their name suggested to me they were

Hard-Fi: no. Sorry.

This lot that are on now look terrible. And also are rubbish

Jazz played by a supergroup comprised of Dave out of Chas n Dave, Jarvis Cocker and a bloke with a playstation.

Nice idea but crap.

Maybe i'm too pissed but i've enjoyed everyone so far apart from Bloc Party, Hard- Fi and Maximo Park (yawn).
Actually- that means that i've only enjoyed half of them so far....

The folkie guy was really good :) And he admitted to having shrooms in his fridge....

*goes to check what he's called*

Yeah...That Seth Lakeman, bloke with the fiddle was pretty good :D

Why are Maximo Park on Warp

Maximo Park are pretty decent imo. Voted for them on the basis of being more cool than the others.

(in my head though, it is really down to Coldplay v Kaiser Chiefs)

Kaiser Chiefs though they don't deserve it if they do win.

You can't deny that they are pretty good live though.

The singer was doing festivals with his leg in plaster and still managing to jump about

"Plaster". They're alright live, the crowd are better - and they weren't the live highlight of Glasto in my books by a good margin.

:p

Best thing about their Glasto set was the big dinosaur. Which wasn't even their own but they claimed it was. Very rude.

I don't hate them - but they do seem a bit music for TV in feel.

Then the NME (i think) gave it away as a prize...even ruder IMO as it must have cost them a few quid for a dinosaur that size :D

I was next to the blokes who brought it alone, they were well pissed off. They did however like Ash and agreed afterwards, they were more cool than the Kaiser Chiefs. Who had just cunted them over.

".....unfortunately Coldplay are playing Madison Square Garden"... and are far too busy to turn up again and not win
 :D

So here's the video (yawn)

LOADS of late money going on Anthony & the Johnsons - new joint faves with Kaiser Chiefs. Hmmm....

Still got my fingers crossed for MIA.

Coldplay make me want to smoke crack and kill people

Those Glasto pics are a happy reminder that I was somewhere else enjoying myself at the time, wondrously oblivious to their performance. I didn't even know they were playing

They are/were pretty good. It does seem that the selecters for the MMP have been watching Jools' show though 'cos they've all been on....

Jools does have impeccable taste in music IMHO
(even though i've heard he's actually a bit of a tosser)
