Excellent choice irrespective of what the harbingers of taste on Urban think !! Richard Hawley was well deserving but the judges got it right especially on a night of such utter twee toss as that Rhodes woman and Sway who were woeful, now I know why they call it Grime [it is grime isn't it, oh who cares !!!!] and as for for The guillemots

Disappointing result. I think the Arctic Monkeys are fab but nothing special or original. To me that album could have been about 3 tracks shorter and so much tighter.
Reading back through the thread I still would have loved Hot Chip to have won but I bought the Richard Hawley album a couple of weeks ago and actually think he should have been the winner. Beautiful songs with a beaitiful voice singing them. Thom Yorke's album is good but definitely not the winner. Editors need another singer as the music is great but his voice is pedestrian.
And the less I sai about Muse the better

mmm - i do like the arctic monkeys a lot, and i think they deserve it, by my own criteria for an award, and not necessarily by mercury's own mission statement.

I voted for Hot Chip but I thought about it for longer and I think Sway deserves it more.
I like Hot chip a lot but I think Sway has more creative new music to offer.Hot Chip are good but they sound like a little bit like some of the other fucked up indie electro clash bands at the moment..I think sway is a lot more original.

If Sway had won, it would have been a travesty - UK hip hop is in rude health but it's got fuck all to do with him, he's really lame.

well, it was a victory for Sheffield, which was nice, tho I had money on Richard Hawley, AM's had the beter album, but being the Mercury, I thought they'd go for the quirly choice, just cos AM's were the most obvous choice.
