Mercury Music prize 07

I totally agree. Once someone's won the award, they should become ineligible. Having two previous winners on there was just ridiculous.

Yeah.. south London wins!

Fucking incredible in a way cos 18 months ago they could hardly play but hell, some decent ideas go a long way. Think it was a decent decision as they were trying something different unlike the others (guess you could argue for Bats For Lashes but there's North Americans doing it better).

The Klaxons - different? I disagree completely .... the album isn't bad but adding a few rave horns to your album doth not a new sound make. Of all the bands in the list I think they're probably the most mainstream apart from The View (clone of The La's), The Arctic Monkeys (now getting very tiresome) and Amy Yawnhouse.

I would have given it to Bat For Lashes, but I love the Maps and Young Knives albums as well. And New Young Pony Club sound very early eighties, but I love 'em for that reason alone.

actually you're right; the album is pretty mainstream and that is what the prize is supposed to be solely judged on

i've still got an affection for them from seeing them way back in the early days (oh, all of 18 months ago:eek: ) and they were doing something a bit different then

i'm glad they won though; not quite sure why but then again every year I look at the Mercury nominations and wonder why none of my favourite albums are in it and it's because most of my favourite albums are made outside of the Uk

What was that Maps crap all about , seemed so mid 90s, quite flat, dull as fuck.

Amy & Fionn I don't think could of won it really they're just singer/song writers you had to be more than that I guess. I thought Fionn Regan was a women when saw him last year live at a festy :o I mistook him for a lesbian singer! :D

Shame Squarepusher's "Hello Everything" wasn't listed. Love to see that reported on Newsround or something. :)
