 Woot! Yep, I live around here. Ooh, will definitely have to meet up! How cool!

Do you know people here?

I do now! Yey!

I come to Keele every other year with the British Institute of Embalmers.

We have a piss up Friday night, lectures and vomiting all day Saturday and repeat previous nights piss up on Saturday night. Lectures and more vomiting Sunday morning then home.

I have a great time - honest!:D

lol! That's ace!!!

:o:cool:

We went to Warwick once. We are now banned.

Keele must be more serious about its partying

woohoo!!! If all goes well with this finding malarky I'll have finished work by then and will be off on the saturday.

I wont!

Still, clutching my bottle of water, swaying in the amphitheater on a Sat morning... why break the habit of a lifetime eh? ;)

Heh, no need to all be congratumalating me just yet - still got to be picked by the panel at the AHRC to be worthy of the money. And to be honest my chances are slim.

But thanks anyway :p

Thread Bump.

So, two years on (I didn't get MRes funding, btw. None of us at Keele did from the AHRC at least), and I'm looking to apply to th AHRC again this time for my PhD.

Internal deadline for initial proposal drafts is 5th Feb (where a panel at Keele decide if you're worthy of being allowed to apply to the AHRC in the first place or not). I finished my first draft yesterday.

Just got an email from my supervisor who said Keele have been BANNED from putting any candidates forward in the doctoral competition. lol. That's just great. Apparently because Keele hasn't been awarded funding for it for a few years they're saying no one may now ever apply in the first place. That's a bit fucking shit if you ask me.

Anyway, we're appealing the decision. So I'm pressing forward on the endless drafting/re-drafting process with my supervisor anyway. It seems prudent to do so.

Apparently the Research Institute here is going to be advertising 30 studentships though - which is a bolt from the blue as I was under the impression there was fuck all available internally. So all may not be lost.

The funding situation for research is one of my most GRRRRRRRRRRR subjects

a) good luck!

b) fwiw, research councils also look at a number of other factors when deciding which institutions are 'approved'. Or - at least - the ESRC certainly does. One of the main factors is how many people complete within four years, RC funded or not. If Keele's had a run of five-yearers, that could've proper screwed up their chances of funding n all.

Good luck VP. As someone who is hovering round the edges of this academic world I can empathise.

(((VP)))

sHEVEK

a) thanks

b) you're probably right.

a) you're welcome! Artichoke is going for the AHRC atm n all.....

b) yeah... I am curious about the reasons you've been given for not being eligible for the AHRC. They sound... odd. Good lick with the appeal, any which ways :)
