The crystal in a watch is a power drain

Im sure I heard about some top of the range designer watch that was run solely on a crystal of some sort, and as a result never needed its battery replacing... maybe not though

AFAK those work on a little pendulum with a ratchet that powers some kind of generator as you move around...

It might be possible to attach the pendulum to one end of a piezoelectric crystal as the generator ... but it'd still be the pendulum (and the movement) that was the power source. People don't claim that copper is a power source 'cos there's such a lot of it in power stations' generators... AFAIK
