McFly Doing A 'Who' Cover

Will Youngs' massacre of "Light My Fire" was not only bad because he had turned it into a warblefest, it was also bad because he had turned a legendary, rough and ragged tune by an anti-establishment band into coffee-house crooner cod-soul.

This would be The Doors light my fire, yes?

Anti-establishment? Jim Morrison was a pretentious wanker who successfully captured the zeitgeist and wrote (along with the rest of his band) some catchy pop tunes and then went on to use fame as an excuse to wave his cock around on stage.

If you're going to use one example of 'rawk rebellion' you'll need to do better than The Doors...

You're making the mistake of assuming that I'm asserting that rock=good and pop=bad. There's no shortage of bad rock bands out there and a lot of very inventive pop acts. What I'm objecting to is the huge number of identikit pop acts out there that are cut and shaped according to a formula, and the fact that there are now 'rock' acts like McFly and Busted who are cut from the same cloth, except with guitars.
The fact that you label such acts as "identikit" gives the impression that you're an outsider looking in on the genre. To be honest I can't think of any others of a similar sound to either band, and I also hear a definite difference in sound between Busted and McFly. Busted, particularly on their last album, were more aggressive and snarled a bit, whereas McFly tend to use the surf guitar sound more and 3 or 4-way vocal harmonies.

Both bands do write their own stuff and James from Busted is a writing partner of McFly. Charlie was only put into Busted after James and Matty had been writing together for years as he was meant to be fitter than them. I never really liked him and from what I've heard Fightstar are a bit shit.

It's almost funny to see your assorted reactions to this. As for "sucking corporate cock", it's odd that this accusation doesn't get fired at other major label acts who aren't meant to appeal to kids (not a criminal offence last time I checked). Double standards?
