They only reason they are there is that the organisers of such events run them with the expectation people like you will be watching.

In a shocking result the World's most successful professional boxer beats first timer. That said. Conner seems to be a hoot.

What...like magician's assistants? Weatherwomen in tight fitting outfits? Rachel Riley?

Is your objection to the fact that they are pretty? Or that they are making money? :)

I didn't see the fight but I get the feeling from the reading I have done that Mayweather wanted it to last a reasonable number of rounds so people wouldn't begrudge the money.

Nah. Not a chance. He wanted it to last because he knew that's how he would win.

Both, most likely. Worked out for everyone. Connor gave a good show of heart, Mayweather (who couldn't beat any of the current boxing champs, no doubt) showed ring skill.

The fact that Connor's legs went so badly around round 8 shows shocking preparation though. Being the younger man he should have trained for the full 12 rounds, he didn't have much of a chance but his technical and physical training for the fight does seem to have been lacking, in hindsight.

I don't recall him using his grappling skills when in close to push his weight down on Mayweather, for instance like this...

    Yes you are probably right.
Suggests he didn't exactly fear McGregor's left hand though.

Just watched it - exactly what I expected, although McGregor actually "boxed" a little better than I thought he might.

It was a decent spectacle, but FM's class told in the end - horrible person but a class act; as soon as CM was spent it was a done deal - I felt slightly guilty watching FM pick him off, but he's a class act, no one could deny that.

They've both gone home pockets loaded and we've lapped it up, still not sure how I feel about that, other than a bit shite.

Enjoyed the fight. As others have mentioned, McGregor held his own fairly well against Mayweather. Glad it's all over now.

The wifebeater claims he's retiring but I reckon he'll be back in a year or two when they offer him $100 million to fight a polar bear or something.

Red Sky It was like that when I got here.

Quite enjoyed the way that Mcgregor occasionally exposed Mayweather's gamesmanship by taking his back and punching him from behind .

It did beg the question of how turning your back and denying your opponent a target can be a legitimate tactic in what is supposed to be a 'fight'.

Boxing is more of a sport than a fight. You can't give your back like that in MMA.

I thought it was frowned upon in boxing/worthy of the referee stopping the fight.

Not so sure about that. Conor's cardio has been conditioned for 3/5 x 5 minutes since he was a nipper; I'm not sure you can convert that to a longer duration so easily. IANAD, but I presume at least some of it will be pretty deeply set, in terms of internal organs - heart, lungs. Some of it's probably a psychological things as well - again, not so easy to overcome with mere training.
There were at least a couple of times where you could see Conor visibly fighting the instinct to go for a Rear Naked Choke. :D

Ok just watched it on youtube and tbh it seemed to be a bit different from Radio 5 live commentary that I got up early to listen to. McGregor looked very amateurish, which I suppose is to be expected given that he's a boxing novice. Sure he was game, but I don't think Mayweather was troubled at all and it was like a cat playing with a mouse.

It was an event, and it had drama and it was super hyped, but it was imo a poor boxing match and Conor was no match for a 41 year old that has been inactive for 2 years. Perhaps it looked different from ringside, Steve Bunce and Mike Costello are usually good boxing analysts, but maybe they got caught up in the hype and I thought gave McGregor way too much credit. McGregor should take the money and run back to UFC because he doesn't really have boxing skills and would get easily found out by any half decent proper boxer. I think Mayweather was toying with Conor and made McGregor look a better boxer than he really is.

They're both laughing all the way to the bank.

This is a reeeaaaally stupid question, but isn't the whole point in whisky that it's aged? In which case, how do you go about starting up a distillery and getting it on the shelves when he's a (relatively) young guy (so I'm assuming didn't start making whisky 5/10 years ago or whatever)?
