Ketchup is vile... mayo on chips is the way forward
I will overlook this blasphemy for now and assume that it's a temporary aberration, brought on by your current up-the-duffedness.

Failure to exhibit culinary sanity post sprog spillage will result in severe punitive action.

Mayonnaise is such a versatile tool - you can mix in a whole pile of additives from basic curry powder/sauce to premixed marinade sachets (my favourite is berberi powder - from Ethiopia and around there - like curry in heat but more mustardy).

Good mayonnaise has all the right properties of solidity and adhesion to provide a tryly satisfying chip dip - the heat of the chip really brings out the gooiness.

Mayonnaise on french fries!
Vinegar and mayo on chips!

Try mixing sweet chillie sauce with mayo! Yuuuuum!
Also, put some mild curry powder on ketchup. Another yum!

PS: Off to vote on the Gravy on Chips thread. Cheerio!

Mayo on the continent has a sweet tinge to it. Hellmans? Yuck. Try the one from Lidl. It comes closest.

mayo on chips might be yum but it's wroooong.
potatoes fried in oil, with a sauce of extra oil? why not just nibble on a slab of butter to round it all off?
And a couple of slices of white bread around it?

The ideal chip/mayo combo must also include a good squidge of Hela curry gewürz ketchup...

Bizarre - I'd never seen this mayo on chips thing til about 12 years ago and thought it was sick and wrong. I was quite quickly converted and mayo is tearing ahead in the poll as the fave chip dressing.

Bloody Yurp!

edit - ketchup is just foul

Any available sauce. Or no sauce. Or some with this sauce and some with that sauce. Or some with a mix of this and that, plus salt, and vinegar...

garlic mayo is the way to go! although i'm struggling to find a sufficiently strong brand of garlic mayo in the UK. i usually pick up aioli when hooning around europe

Used to live in Germany and Holland, when anyone from the family goes over they have to bring back enough for everyone :D

Hellmans is the blandest mayonnaise ever made (no wonder Spit the dog advertised it) - how they manage to remove all taste from eggs and vinegar I'll never know - add a bit of chilli sauce and garlic though :)

wtf is wrong with people, mayonaise on chips?
:p

Don't knock it 'til you've tried it - only works on the continent though - don't mess with Fish and Chips, they just need salt and vinegar (and maybe a quality home made curry sauce)

Excuse me, but could I just take this opportunity to cuff everyone who uses the word "Mayo" sharply across the back of the head
