Matrix & Matrix Reloaded..

Bollocks to ya. I liked the second film a lot. And even though the third one was UTTER SHITE, I still enjoyed it anyway. Stick that up yer cuckoo's nest. Anyway, CUCKOOS DON'T EVEN MAKE NESTS!

I liked all of them, disliked the pretentious twaddle from the Frenchman and the Architect. Other than that they made good action films. The scene on the motorway in the 2nd film and the battle against the machines in the 3rd film are excellent.

Could it be that people watched the first one expecting an action movie and were pleasantly surprised by the cod-philosophy? But they watched the second one expecting a philosophical movie and were unpleasantly disappointed by the cod-philosophy?

No, it was that the first was a tightly plotted sci-fi action with a bit of bollocks thrown in. Could have been a star wars for the 90's, we thought. The next two were bloated and wasted all of the tension built by the first film.

The sequels only had to stick to the format of the first one, keep it simple and they would have been similarly worshipped... instead they just spunked all over it

Apocalypse now, Pulp Ficton, No country for old men, the italian job, one flew over the cuckoos nest, ... all "nonsense jibber jabber", i still like them.

for "nonsense jibber jabber"... read escapism.

Crap, it's not logical to it's own basic premise.

That's because you dont understand it!

Unfair, maybe you do, but just dont like that sort of thing, I dont know.

I am, to paraphrase Mark E Smith, a layman, i am not interested in how technically proficient it is, or how clever the plot is, i am just interested in if i enjoyed it. I do enjoy these films and no ammount of persuasion will change my opinion. I happen to think the plot is quite clever in places (even though there are one or two cheesy bits).

Surely all science fiction is "nonsense jibber jabber" to lesser or greater extents. What is wrong with that? Or should we all stick with 'To kill a mocking bird' or 'All the Presidents men'.

I think the problem is that if the first one had been released as a solitary, stand alone venture, it would have a considerably higher standing than it does have.

I remember seeing it and thinking that it was one film that really didn't need a sequel.

Indeed. And even though I don't own the intellectual rights, I refuse to acknowledge sequels that were never planned in the first place and were solely created to ride on the wave of the original film's popularity and milk extra profits.

As far as I'm concerned The Matrix ended with Neo rising and destroying the system. No renegade agent Smiths, no Architect, no machines having won the war 6 times already nonsense.

Well on Monday I am going to watch Matrix Revolution or whatever it is called on TV.

I liked the first, enjoyed the second and although I have seen it before I can't really recall details of the third but I hope and expect to be entertained.

I love the Matrix. One of my favourite films. For that i can even forgive the sequels, although Reloaded isn't half bad. The problem was that they went in a strange direction: i was convinced the 'big twist' was that the real world/zion was still going to be part of the simulation and that Neo would be the first to realise this.

Otherwise what's the point of letting a bunch of humans periodically escape and help them (presumably) build their dustbin city?

I also like the philosophy of the first movie. I don't care how 'cod' it is nor if that renders me uncool. I have never been cool, not even when I wore fluorescent socks and flecked trousers in school (and they were fucking sharp, bitches!)

It's one of my fav movies too. The WTF factor wen I first watched it when Neo wakes up in the pod is nuts, I had to rewind it at the time.

It was the last movie i saw multiple times at the cinema and I was glad that it wasn't spoiled for me ahead of time. I think they did a good job keeping it under wraps.

I was planning on watching it tonight as well. reloaded tomorrow. esa tribunal on monday (if i win it will take the edge off revolutions which, tbf, isn't terribly satisfying).

I love the first, and The Animatrix does a very decent job of expanding the universe. Then earlier this year decided to shotgun all three movies in one sitting. A very painful sitting. The first did a great job of mixing cod-philosophy, a booming soundtrack, very well executed stunts and visual effects, fantastic cinematography and dropping cultural references left and right. Then the second and third had nothing of that. Worst thing, the CGI aged terribly. If the Smiths inside the Matrix look a bit video-gamey, sure, it's the Matrix that can't deal with all that. But the Zion invasion at times looks like a cheap saturday morning cartoon.
