Maskless people on public transport.

Where are they not doing it? If you judge everyone whose not wearing a mask as the same then you are obviously going to be judging people who have genuine reasons for not wearing one in amongst that group.

Of course, but I can live with that. Better that a few people with legitimate reasons for not wearing mask feel judged than the far larger number who just can't be bothered don't. If that sort of pressure is what it takes to make people do the right thing then so be it.

As for 'where,' I don't see the relevance: as this thread goes to show, it's hardly a localised problem.

I meant on local transport, outside etc. Rather than being in a specific location.

No worries. I guess a few people being targeted who have genuine reasons through no control of their own are necessary collateral as long as it makes a wider point.

We'll see what the longer term impact of that is. I predict that it will cause some people to now be more isolated and not feel able to travel on public transport. I also think your wide of the mark that it's a "small number" of people that are exempt from wearing masks.

It is a small number in the grand scheme of things: it's kids under five and a limited range of medical conditions. There's absolutely no way that can account for the proportion of people not wearing masks on the buses (and other forms of public transport too, judging from what I see online).

'Targeted' is a bit of a loaded word, isn't it? I'm hardly advocating vigilante violence - more rolled eyes and moving away.

I suppose in some people's tiny minds being non-judgemental is more important trying to stem the spread of a disease that's already killed 60k in the UK and rising.

To be absolutely honest, for a number of weeks now, I've been trying to think about what I am going to do to keep myself safe and not dwell too much on the behaviour of others. I feel that that is all I can do now. I can't police the behaviour of others but I can take all the steps I feel are necessary.

Yep. And the overriding message seems to be that washing / sanitising hands regularly (especially whenever you touch something that someone else has touched) is the key thing you can do from now on.

That and sending TopCat ahead as an advance guard to slaughter all who stand in your way...

Kids under 11, not 5

Where did I get 5 from?! :o Either way, it doesn't extend to the group of teenagers on a bus that passed me yesterday who were all sitting round in a group, including in seats currently blocked off to try and keep passengers apart, or - judging on appearance alone, so cautiously - to most of the rest of the passengers who weren't wearing masks. Either the rule on masks matters and should be enforced, or it's not important and should be rescinded.

Rolled eyes and moving away clearly isn't want I'm talking about. I'm talking about people confronting those not wearing masks that has already happened. I'm concerned for those I know being targeted due to this and the atmosphere that is created by people makes that more likely.

"Tiny minds" aimed at me? Or is it just people that are asking people to be considerate of those with unseen condition's before judging their character? If that makes me a tiny minded person I'm quite content with that.

This is the new "No ones abiding by lockdown" basically.

I do agree that there are many people not wearing masks who should be that's not my arguement.

Yes, I called him a fucking idiot - he was also raving about the virus not being real - then I remembered I was wearing my council staff ID badge, but fuck it, he’d be too stupid to complain or even notice
Rule No. 1. Never where identification in public. I have been stopped about graffiti, grass cutting even MOTs before Now.

Mrs Tag is a very cleaver and rational person. She thinks she will be working from home until September. When she goes back to work it will be by buses or train and is really giving the impression of being very worried about it. Here, in the rush hour, you are fortunate if you can even get on a bus. As for having space

Picking up on your past point first, you agree there are people not wearing masks who should be, but also say we shouldn't judge these people. In making that point you are judging them! You can't have it both ways, so which is it?

And what do you mean by 'targeted'? If you mean told firmly that they should be wearing a mask and that by not doing so they're putting others in danger, then that's a good thing. Anyone who's exempt can just explain themselves.

And yes, the 'tiny minds' comment was aimed at you, although I'm sure it applies to plenty of others as well. If you care more about not judging people than preventing further infections - and that's what this comes down to - then you need to take a long, hard look at where your priorities lie.

No I am talking very specifically about people who CANT wear masks. I'm asking people to not judge everyone not wearing a mask.

Why should someone who finds traveling at the best of times stressful have to explain their medical details to a random member of the public? Do you see how hard that is for some people? How many times can they be expected to be asked? 5 times? 10 times? Can you not see how awful that is going to be?

I'm comfortable that my priority is to not just stop the spread of Covid, but also to make sure that this doesn't lead to more problems for those that I know who are already isolated, struggling and aren't able to adapt perfectly to a new set of rules.

The proportion of travellers you're describing there is tiny. It's obviously not good if those who can't wear masks get caught up by pressure being put on the far larger number who won't, but I can't see how it can be avoided except by people refusing to say anything at all to anyone, and that's probably a worse outcome.

Please don't come back at me with some insinuation I don't care about people's medical issues. My best mate has done more time in a loony bin - his phrase, not mine - than most ever will. He wears a mask.

I saw PSOs at a few bus stops today. The first lot observed my bus from outside and appeared to check with the driver that everything was fine. At that stage, there were two people not wearing masks on a relatively busy bus, however, at the next stop four unmasked people got on. It was good to see it was being somewhat "enforced" though.

Was on a small single decker on Sat. The confused look on people's faces, as they watched with raised arms as the bus went sailing straight past them.
I have seen nudes with big black on yellow notes in their windscreen stating bus is full. Clearly to explain to people why it's not stopping

I argue that it's much higher than what you'd think, but I appreciate that my view of that is probably skewed due to the high proportion of people that I do know. I think it's okay for some people to have that role, but it's probably not one for the general public due to the reasons that I've listed and the fact that often people can be quite nasty which has a long lasting impact. I don't think you will do that necessarily, but some people will.

You're the one throwing around most of the insinuations about people having the wrong priorities and small minds.

I'm convinced that is what has saved me so far. I've been out and about a lot and on public transport as I've worked throughout the lockdown. I try extremely hard not to touch anything when I'm out and I don't touch my face. If I do touch something, I sanitise my hands. Whenever I get where I am going, I wash my hands immediately.

And I stay the fuck away from other people as much as is practicle.

There's no excuse for aggression and nastiness, both of which are all too prevalent in all sorts of ways at present. I doubt we'd disagree on that, and I regret the irritable 'tiny minds' jibe. I do think you're making a flagpole out a matchstick. But you won't back down and nor will I, so we had best leave it there.

Hopefully I am. :)

& I agree.

I have done this for ten years and haven't had so much as a cold in that time.
