Suspect there's a reason that the food processor, described and sold as such, is the thing that's parcelled with the machine. You may be better off getting a specific dicing attachment if dicing is your sole need, but the food processor can cover a tonne of bases *reasonably* well. Hummous / pulverising, slicing, sort of dicing, grating (fantastic for whole blocks of parmesan) etc.

Cakes are baked. The chef made light work of the mixing. Kitchen is a bit of a mess.

Nah, I need to ensure client confidentiality and also I don't think urban is ready for my avant-garde cake decorating approach.

I have the newer Chef Classic which came with the rotary grater attachment. It's a loud bugger though. I need ear defenders when it's running at top speed. For mixers though, nothing beats(no pun intended) a good old-fashioned Hobart. Or a Crypto Peerless.

When would a person want to colander/ sieve things inside the mixer ?

  13. teuchter

    teuchter je suis teuchter

If that person was mixing sieved ingredients for example.

Here's a beastly Kenwood Peerless from the late fifties-early sixties. There used to be a cream-coloured one in the basement of my old workplace. I think Kenwood dabbled with industrial machines for a while until they concentrated on domestic machines. Bloody hell! I feel a mixer porn thread coming on..........

I have not used it properly yet but a trial run indicated that it may be capable of introducing a quantity of tiny metal filings to any dish I care to season in such a way.

Kind of you to start off with a distinctly Razzle Razzle machine.

    It certainly is.
I chanced upon this thread last week and I thought 'Oh bless 'em, with their middle class mixers, they obviously provide a lot of mixing related happiness, I'm sure Nigella fawns over her mixer too...'.
Ever since then (and because i'm having a new kitchen put in and haven't cooked for a week or had fresh cake for ever such a long time) I can't stop thinking about these stand mixers. I fantasise about them when I'm microwaving my beans, I browse different models on John Lewis' website, I work out elaborate cost/use/joy ratios to justify this new desire of mine.
And I just came on Urban specifically to look up this thread to see if they're really worth the bother

Unless money's no object...get a second hand kenwood. Loads on ebay. Spares and attachments still readily available even for mine which may well be about 50 years old.

teuchter, anything inspirational come out of your machine lately? Haven't used mine for weeks and its in danger of moving from kitchen surface into the oubliette that is the back of the hallway cupboard. :(

It's to do with forcing the ingredients through the siv. Great for purees and posh mash to serve up to a posh guest.

I appeal to all you Kenwood Chef owners.

If yours is gathering dust and guilt, act and give it to me!

It will get used lots! I promise in exchange a really good meal that will include souffles. (Though I will likely make the souffles manually).:D

I want to see results, edible stuff, not your ever growing collection of attachments.

    Does that work?

I'd wondered about whether I could do that kind of thing but wasn't sure if it would be going too far off label.

The other day I put a half-lemon skin through my new mincing attachment just to see what would happen. It got minced. Next I want to see what happens if I put raw potato through it.
