Martin Oneil? Best young manager ever?

Well, consider 'the bell ringing and trumpet blowing' that met his appointment as Manager to Aston Villa, his possible appointment as England manager, since then there has been an almost silence as to his progress and achievements.

I fully realise that this method of illustration may be well beyond your usual realm of understanding.

But, stay with the game plan, it may help you to comprehend the more detailed posts.

Kind regards, any further aid or assistance, please, don't hesitate to pick up a dictionary or a thesaurus.

He's done a fantastic job at Villa. I don't think you'll find anyone to disagree with that sentiment.

Cheers, Cock Nose. Here's wishing you well in every sphere of life.

Well, the gap between expectations and reality seem to be widening.

Born Sept 62...won 2 La Liga titles and the Champions League.

As a player: 5 Dutch league titles, 2 Dutch cups, Cup Winners Cup, 2 Italian titles, 2 Italian Super cups.

Oh and the small mater of 3 Champions Legaue winners medals

He's gonna be shown the door come the end of season dependent on Barcelona's league success from what I've heard (ie. a repeat of last year and he's out).

Martin O'Neil..

Just over half the games as a manager from Wycombe Wanders to date ( 54% ) won, only 36.76% win rate at Aston Villa.... Hmm, But, good manager?

Debatable.

Looks much better as a table than just a sentence.

Over half the games he's been in charge of in total, he's won. How is that an argument against him being a good manager?

it does if you know fuck all about football.

That sentance makes no sense .

Unless you also look at the performances of the teams before a manager started to the change in performance once they have started you can maybe get a decent idea of how "good" that manager is .

well looking at the teams he's managed his record seems very good, unless of course he's actually been managing Man Utd, Arsenal, and Barcelona for his entire career his record is very good no matter how you look at it.

Btw, if you're gonna start judging managers by their win rates descartes, then O'Neill works out at being a better manager than Kenny Dalglish, Arsene Wenger and Bobby Robson. :hmm:

He's leaving no matter what we do...and Jose is coming in. He's def got weaknesses and we def got shite when Ten Cate left. Sturday's game proved he's gone a bit loopy becuase we looked brilliant with Eto'o on his own with Messi deeper but he insists on playing Henry

O'Neill's most impressive achievement to date has to surely be what he did for Leicester. Turning a lower league side into a solid top 10 prem side for the duration that he was in charge, while not spending much money, and winning them two trophies. Very very impressive.

When he was younger you mean? ;)

I always think of him as younger same as most people but great a manager as he is, I'm glad he didn't take or get the England job for his own sake.

I thought you were saying Augie knew fuck all about football and even though he is a colchester fan I have to admit he does know what he's on about :(

I certainly didn't have him down as 56 years old.

This raises the question of what exactly is young in managerial terms.

I mean, Mark Hughes and David Moyes are still touted as young, up and coming, managers at the age of 44. Yet Mourinho is only a year older than them, and Benitez only 3.

Richard Money at walsall is impressing me no end. He is great with the kids, speaks sense and is getting a lot out of his players. Obviously not a great manager as he has done fuck all yet as the top bananaa but he is definatly one to watch for. Done a lot at yuouth level for liverpool and cov and his manergerial recored thus far is amazing!

Moyes is the best young(ish) manager in the premiership. Steve copell is class as well but really really boring.

After this weekend, the up and coming Manger has got to be Barnsley's Simon Davey

Barnsley boss Simon Davey has hailed Saturday's FA Cup victory over Chelsea as even better than the win at Liverpool in the previous round.

Brian Howard's last-gasp goal secured a 2-1 success at Anfield last month and The Tykes followed it up with a hugely impressive performance at home against Chelsea.

Kayode Odejayi struck on 66 minutes to fire Barnsley into the semi-finals and Davey feels the result was the highlight of his career in management.

Asked which felt better, Davey told Sky Sports News: "It's got to be Oakwell. The win at Anfield was a fantastic achievement for the players but to do it in front of your home crowd against the multi-millionaires of Chelsea and the holders of the FA Cup was fantastic for everybody concerned.
