Martin Bain predicts exit from SPL for Rangers

Neither mention anything that might make Scottish football more competitive which pretty much is the only realistic option they have.

It's a bit arrogant to think automatically that the Dutch or Portuguese would jump through hoops to join them in a League. The big 3 in the Eredivisie aren't in the Champions League this year and with Twente and AZ you have 5 teams that can win it which is probably more than any other League in Europe other than probably the Bundesliga.

Rangers in the Irish League.
Celtic in the League of Ireland.

Sorted.:D

Or...they could fuck off and form some Super Sectarian league with the eastern Europeans.

So what would happen if they joined the Premiership, got spanked and were demoted to the Championship? Presumably they'd move on somewhere else?

Seriously though, they'd be somewhere behind Everton, Spurs & Villa wouldn't they? They'd be struggling to qualify for Europe every year.

Good move that, from Champions League to 12th in the Prem

Not that anyone down here is remotely interested in having them.

It's a 'loss leader'. Celtic and Rangers for winning or coming 2nd in the SPL get £2 million max in tv money. Derby got £30m last year and got relegated. It's a long view they're taking. I mdon't a\gree but they're looking at the long-term money increases.

Here's some of the things that would improve if the Old firm go:
1. less sectarianism
2. more equitable distribution fo resources
3. better competition
4. newly promoted teams won't have to waste gazillions of pounds on new ugly stadia whose main function is to provide comfortable seats to rnagers and Celtic fans on their biannual visit
5. less sectarianism
6. better and fairer news coverage
7. Other SPL and SFL teams fans having to look to their own shortcomings rather than having the old firm to blame
8. less sectarianism

Have I missed anything?
More interesting people in Glasgow...larger numbers bringing increased commerce to the city and area....increased television revenue

Better games. (as in your point 3)

Every now and then, there's a discussion on how Porto, given the structure of the club, would handle on a bigger league. While I believe Porto could handle most teams in the La Liga, that would only last until injuries and suspensions forced the second-string players into the starting eleven. A lot of good players chose Porto over better paying mid-table teams in Spain because they know the club is mildly competitive in Europe, and ranks in the top of presences in the CL. After becoming a mid-table "Iberian" club, I doubt Porto would achieve success in Spain. At best, the odds would be the same as in UEFA competitions - maybe a big win every 20 years or so.

I know that there are suggestions to create some sort of European joint league with squads from teams under the Top5 spots in the UEFA Ranking, but considering the problems and limitations of being in a poor, secondary market, I think Porto is doing quite well facing the "big boys". Perhaps instead of whining for not having enough money, Celtic and Rangers would do better to find out why Scotland, who had a quite respectable national team until the late 80s, is now in shambles.

On last nights showing, Ipswich would beat Rangers.

It would take Celtic, and Rangers, a few years of the TV money to build on already well established reputations. Once done they would start to challenge.

Shit arguement tho Fedayn....If you gave Shamrock rovers or Linfield £30 million in TV money they might be competitive in the premiership.....

Rangers and Celtic should be doing all they can to improve the standard of Scottish football......And stop wanking on about things that will hopefully never happen....

Fuck sake are you thick? The money is the reason the clubs boards want to move.

This is a complete pipe dream.

No TV exec would pay upfront for the TV rights to a league of second-rate motley teams from Europe's footballing hinterland - they'd have to prove that they were a proposition worth bankrolling.

Which begs the question - how are they going to finance this in the short run, given that the new business model has got to work without gate receipts from playing in the SPL? Tickets are pricey enough without having to fly to Iceland or wherever to see your team play. You'd be a fool to bankroll such a shaky idea, and the only way I can see it working is if some Sheikh with more money than sense instates himself as a Bernie Ecclestone figure running the league to absorb the inevitable huge losses.

I'd feel sorry for the english citys having to contend with thousands of rampaging barbarian hordes on a regular basis.

On the plus side, we'd be shot of them.
