Nasa's Phoenix lander is due to touch down on Sunday GMT in the far north of the Red Planet, after a 680-million-km (423-million-mile) journey from Earth.

Just watched the live feed from mission control as it landed on BBC News. It was riveting stuff! Someone was giving updates of how many metres were left to touchdown. It sounded too fast to me as every few seconds another 100 metres were counted down but then when it reached 200 mt. it started to slow down and at the end it seemed like a textbook landing. Lots of hi-fives and happy people in the room

Let's hope so. Mars landers are cool.
