Mars Phoenix probe has landed 26/05/08

I can't seem to do a screengrab, but I'm liking the shots of the "Attitude Control" desks.

"C H I L L . . . " :)

And I've killed the sound because... well... small-town US TV presenters...

If all goes to plan, the Phoenix lander will reach the surface of Mars at 2353 GMT on 25 May (1953 EDT; 0053 BST on 26 May).

BBC

Yet the Nasa website has it landing in 44 mins and 44 secs.:confused:

What are all those people in Mission Control doing?

They've just announced that the thingy is handling its own landing from now on.

Just watched the live feed from mission control as it landed on BBC News. It was riveting stuff! Someone was giving updates of how many metres were left to touchdown. It sounded too fast to me as every few seconds another 100 metres were counted down but then when it reached 200 mt. it started to slow down and at the end it seemed like a textbook landing. Lots of hi-fives and happy people in the room :D

Now let's hope everything goes okay when it opens its solar panels in 15 min. or so.

Incidentally I'm glad to see that Nasa scientists (or at least some of them) use the metric system now.

Hey maybe it could be turned into a penal colony. <eyes up which politician / cleb should be on the first prison space hulk to Mars>
