Marketing Dissertation.

big toe crying said:
I think the newest example of this happening is the iPod. I am in Central America, and more frequently people are refering to any MP3 player as an iPod.

Well that has hapenned quickly then, how long have iPods been out?

Yes also "walkman" is used here in GB quite often to describe any small audio unit that can clip to a belt.

Someone I know from the year above me (I did marketing and media but did a media dissertation, sorry!) did their's on the marketing and rise of 'sex' shops like Harmony. Most others sounded really dull but when she came to talk to us about it before we chose our subjects she was really animated and seemed to love it. I remember doing a project on the cognitive theory of why sex sells in advertising. That was pretty fun too :)

Hope you are getting on ok with your ideas! I am just staring my marketing dissertation too and doing my lit review, it is exploring whether the power of branding has a significant influence on entrepreneurial fashion designers; my idea changed so many times but branding is a key area I wanted to look at.

They always say to find an area that seems to be of growing importance or will help you with your career prospects dont they. Some of the other areas that I looked into and found interesting were branding over geographical boundaries and the argument into standardisation v.adaptation / Brand extensions and whether they conform to their parent brand's image / the influence of the celebrity on charity causes / the marketing of eco-fashion and whether it is a phase or growing way of life.

Howdo.

Thanks for all the suggestions and stuff, they got me thinking. Basically, i hav chosen to do it on Political marketing. I shall copy and paste abit from the project plan to give a brief idea.

During the 2005 election campaign the three main political parties within the UK all used sophisticated marketing strategies and technologies which enabled them to promote themselves through the national media, but more importantly enabled them to deliver highly personalised campaign messages to a small number of the electorate who would determine the election outcome. The latter was achieved using direct marketing techniques. It is alleged that due to the prevalence of marketing techniques used within political campaigning, politics is being perceived as another commodity being sold for consumption.
Political marketing is a very important subject and one that I feel has significant scope for research and investigation. This is because it can be claimed that the extensive use of marketing in electoral campaigning suggests that market principles rather than political ideologies drive the political proces

What do you think?
Im going to try and interview local MP's etc as part of my research, its all about vague at the minute but im hoping ill get a better perspective of what i need to do as time goes on. Its all about setting objectives and answering them through your research. I still need to set out objectives properly.

Marketing and politics, interesting.

Politicians used to stand up for what they believed in. If voters liked what they believed in then the politician was elected.

Now using marketing techniques, politicians try to find out what people want, down to as fine a detail as specific words that they like and then the politician constructs their position based on what they think the electorate want.

So politicians now are standing for things they think we want rather than things that they believe in with any firm conviction.

This dishonesty is clearly visible, people spouting the party line without conviction.

Politicians have become followers not leaders. Who wants to follow a follower except perhaps a lemming.

imho marketing has confused politicians. The two things marketing and politics should remain seperate.
