Mark Thomas endorses Green Party

I agree on what he says about disgruntled labour voters it is hard for them to find anyone who represents them

what about the swp?

don't all green parties become free market neoliberalist once they get near power?

How about the Italian Greens?

They were in power in Italy (or at least part of the governing coalition) and shifted dramatically to the left, forming an electoral pact with Communist refoundation at the last election...

The Catalan Greens have also remained on the left, and are also part of the regional government...

The GP have just endorsed a very badly thought out policy which basically sanctions 'open borders', how can this be consistent with what they also advocate: a localised sustainable economy?

That shows the exact opposite. A move to the left after losing the sniff of power they had whilst on the right, supporting the neo-liberal policies of Prodi's Olive Tree coalition.

I wonder how he would feel in Wales or Scotland. In Scotland he would still be likely to back the Greens as the SNP are not that good on environmental issues (apart from renewable energy), but in Wales the Greens don't really exist that much.

in the same way that just because one SWP member when elected as a councilor defects to the Tories doesn't mean they all will...

isn't it the only possibility in england to enable coalition at national or regional level and because of the current system, you gotta move to the right. or when in power it moves you.

i think thats what happened in ireland theres alot of people who were turned off by the stench of fianna fail maybe see dollars in green industry and join the greens, to save the hippies from themselves, a lot of young greens in ireland are now pretty much PD greens imho. tory greens sorta.

unfortunately true. so many things they could be at the forefront of in cardiff as well. a well organised progressive party would go great guns in cardiff but there is nobody there!

the italian system is very different to the english one. there is never one ruling party.

I read his book: As used on the famous Nelson Mandela

But ooh, actually, it's a bargain on his website (and I can't recommend this book highly enough):

It actually seems extremely well researched, and it's a bloody good read, I highly recommend it, you think he's a comedian, but the quality is of a high calibre investigative reporter, and seriously, few broadcasters or broadsheets have the time and resources to devote to this kind of indepth investigation, so make the most of it while you can.

His general website is here:

He's touring at the moment, dates here:

I'm hoping to see him in Manchester in June.
