Mark Hughes joins Man City

surprised really, i thought he would have stayed at blackburn and be in with a chance to take over from fergie when he does eventually retire, blackburn is a good gig, secure job, man city will be a toughie, and he might fuck up the reputation he has gained so far

Citeh are pretty famous in China because of the Sun Jihai factor...

Looks like he's off to Hull or Stoke or someone like that.
He did a good job at City and can play in about six positions reasonably well but prone to lack of concentration at times and would struggle to get on the bench for any side in the top half of the table.
Would be a solid buy for a team coming up into the division trying to avoid the drop. Wish him well.

Surely Hughes taking the City job rules him out of any outside chance of getting the Utd job when Fergie retires?

Case scenario: 1) Sack happy Thaksin gives him the golden boot after a couple of years, and Sparky's managerial reputation though intact is a wee bit tarnished. The Glazer family go for the big name manager, rather than taking the long view of appointing someone like Hughes.

Case scenario: 2) Hughes does a good job at City, and they become a regular top six side. Maybe even knocking on the door of the fourth place spot. Would City really allow their city rivals to headhunt their most successful manager since the days of Joe Mercer and Tony Book? There'd be a bastard riot on their hands. Thaskin would wish he was back in Thailand.

It suggests that Hughes knew he was never going to get the Utd job outside of Blackburn doing the impossible and winning the league.

Just wish he hadn't taken Thaskin's dirty money. :(

If hughs has any sense he will chuck in a big 4 release clause into his contract.

well, Hughes'll be sacked after a year anyway, so what does it matter.

Top 6 or out, Thaksins footballing nouse seems to be almost the equal of his political honesty.
