What a disgraceful human being. How would he like it if I came round to his house and ran over him in my car or cut him up with hedge shears for nibbling on MY fence?

im not sure that anyone under 30 has ever read uncut, and even if they did, would they really be that influenced by mark e smith to want to start murdering squirrels?RSPCA man said:"To suggest in a magazine read by youngsters that it is a good idea to harm wildlife is both extremely stupid and highly irresponsible."
brilliant stuffThis. ^It's because he's made some of the best music of the last 30 years and wrote some of the funniest/most intelligant lyrics to boot. And he's total value for money.

Quite. I'm pretty sure this notional under-30-year-old who once looked at Uncut, if they had heard of MES, would think him an old fart.he isn't a musician at all, i don't think he claims to be
He's not a singer, he's a vocalist. I suppose rutabowa is defining musician as someone who plays an instrument. MES has instrumentalised on Fall records, but only occasionally, and I don't think even he would claim competence.
Right, I must be getting him confused with the lead 'singer' (or utterly out of tune shouter) of a band called the Fall. Whom I thought were in the music business?
mm that doesn't really bear any relation to anything anyone has said does it?Ok, fair enough. My question's been answered I guess. Hes much loved simply because hes such a cunt. I can respect that.
he doesn't think of himself as a musician, more a writer who happens to recite stuff with a musical backing.
no i am not entirely convinced by the fall either, he has the odd funny line tho. i reckon you would maybe have to work at it (and probably grow up with it) to really get it! i can't be bothered really.Ok, question answered. Thank you. Still dont get him even based on his lyrics, theyre as bad as his vocals IMO, but yeh - each to their own.

Somehow I can't see many Daily Mail readers rushing out to buy it...

Suspiciously-timed tabloid furore, bearing in mind his long-awaited* autobiography is due to be released in just over a week...![]()
First extract-ahh!
*Long-awaited by me, anyway.![]()
I grew up with the Fall. I've been listening to MES for 30 years, and, in my opinion, he is one of the greats. Like another of my long time passions, Neil Young, he is awkward, contrary, contradictory, difficult to work with, possessed of a voice you either love or hate, and the producer of some of the most sublime music (in my opinion) and lyrics ever recorded. Also like Young, occasionally his music is challenging, and also like Young, now and again it just isn't very good. But it is always interesting.no i am not entirely convinced by the fall either, he has the odd funny line tho. i reckon you would maybe have to work at it (and probably grow up with it) to really get it! i can't be bothered really.
"One guest at a time - that's my philosophy.
-You don't want your house turning into a hippy commune."
