I didn't know that, but are you sure? Wikipedia has Mežica, Slovenia but most of the other sources have his birthplace as Bologna

Vieri, the son of former Italian great Roberto, was born in Bologna but grew up with Labbozzetta in Sydney's southwestern suburbs while his father finished his career playing and coaching Marconi Fairfield in the old national soccer league.

The point I was making incidentally was in response to a poster who suggested that France had lots of colonial players who ought to be playing for other countries. Personally I think they should play for whoever they want. Just like all the colonials in the English team.

Playing for England is far more lucrative than playing for Ireland, Wales or Scotland. You're not going to dispute that surely? If players got more money for playing for the other home countries they would - they're only human.

Owen Hargreaves is half English and half Welsh and was born in Canada. Why do you think he chose to play for England? Better team, higher profile, bigger wages, sponsorship deals etc. I don't blame him - his choice. Wonder whether he handed his Welsh under-18 caps back mind.

Irrelevant. Lot of kids dream about playing football for their country as soon as they are old enough to know what the game is.

How do you know he didn't always want to play for England and Wales were just the first to come knocking? You don't.

I'd wager most of the English born Irish players over the last 20 years would have picked England if they had ever come calling.
