Manu Chao - Three nights in Brixton

The reggae bits were good. The sudden snap changes to double time punk versions were annoying. Most of the re-chorded covers were worse than the originals. (stand by me chords? oh crist). Band sorely needed a brass section. Overall, good fun, but not worth the money, IMO :(

yeah, enjoyed it but agree with alot of what you said Crispy - got annoying that every song predictably ended in a a polka-punk mosh-out..

.. and how many encores did they want/do??

i'll stick to the recorded stuff, unless he does an acoustic set or something..

yeah - i kinda agree about the sound/horns

still love his/bands energy bouncing around - lots of dancing where we were and jumping round - really enjoyed it but not blown away as I sort of expected

Agreed - the 2step punk style got irritating after 2 songs, as did the way they felt the ned to end EVERY song with a 7 beat roll on the snare.

the reggae was good, the latin cuban-esque bt was good as was the fantastic spanish guitar but all in all a waste of money.

And at £20 a ticket what the fuck was he harping on about anti capitalist "fight finance" bollocks for.

A lot of pseudo-hippy bullshit if you ask me.

And probably the ultimate cringe - the bass player in a Che Guevara basketball vest. Ha!

I really wish I'd been at this gig, but these reports remind me of how bad the sound quality at the Academy can be ... :(

Unlikely to be there again til early March** but yes, prices are steep for well known bands there and you get ripped off both sound quality wise, and shit, chemical, overpriced 'beer' wise ... :(

**The L*v*ll*rs 20th anniversary tour, early 2008 :o :p :D
