Manic Street Preachers?

you're telling me MSP have never looked like the Clash?

(prepares to fall off chair laughing).

I use the present tense.

Many bands looked a little like The Clash in the late 70's and early 80's. They were hugely influential (and still are) in many ways.

I think the Manics found they're own unique style very quickly though.

The Manics looked EXACTLY like the Clash in the early 90s though, a little late in the day really.

I love the Manics but with their last album they sounded like U2. I've listened to it about 3 times and it's now collecting dust.

it's ok,Solitude Sometimes Is is a good song, but i'm sure i'm not the only one who thinks it's maybe time for them to call it a day. Which may well be the case given that there's solo albums on the way from James Dean Bradfield and (oh dear God) Nicky Wire (by his own admission it's "a really crappy punk album").

And the first 2 albums definitely sound like Guns n Roses. Not Bon Jovi.

the first two albums had a couple of gems on but i thought the production was on the whole pretty bad

i still rate the holy bible, it has some amazing lyrics on and still rocks imo

"Funny place for the social, for the insects to start caring
Just an ambulance at the bottom of a cliff"

A Nicky Wire solo abum? Oh dear...his bass playing is pretty bad and his lyrics are a little too laboured for my liking.

Much as i love the Wire his lyrics are not getting better with age. "Collapsing like the twin towers" indeed.
A whole album of Wattsville Blues.Sweet Jesus save me from certain death...

A little late for who? You trying to say The Clash were a little out of date and uncool in the early 90's?

Great bands are timeless. They will always spawn imitators and remain influential. I can't understand the criticism you're making. Coolness is all in the timing? If they had appeared as a new band looking like The Clash today would that be a bad thing also?

Personally I don't honestly care what any band looks like or, how they're rated by self appointed fashion police. If I enjoy the music that's good enough for me. Even if the music is obviously influenced by another band I enjoy who just happen to be 'uncool' at the time.

I was even listening to Tresspass by Genisis the other day :D Equally bad lyrics you'll be pleased to know.

Their lead singer represented the UK in the world breakdance championship in the 80s

I loved the holy bible album but never got into any of their other stuff

I come from the same place as the manics. I even remember them practicing in what now is a florists.

They are patchy but when they are good-there's no doubt they are brilliant IMO.

I really tried to like them cos they're Welsh and it would be  to have agood home-grown band , but bar a couple of songs, they're a dirge.

I feel if you're of a certain age , the early style was seen it all before, and post Ritchie leaving, they became a rugger bugger band ( taking over from the hugging in a ciecle jumping up and down spilling beer over your college rugby shirt ).

Now they have nothing , split up and backdate it !

I used to be a big fan, but I've lost interest. They've done some good stuff, but a lot of it's complete crap too. I used to love The Holy Bible: now I find it unlistenable - overcomplicated lyrics shoehorned into fairly mediocre tunes. Before Everything Must Go most of their output was crude and shouty, and ever since they've gone very middle-of-the-road.

Tbh I find them frustrating, because they so obviously can do some really good stuff. They've done the odd classic song (Motorcycle Emptiness, for example, is brilliant by anyone's standards) and Everything Must Go is a great album.

Quality band

Manic Street Preachers have announced a pair of arena concerts to benefit NHS workers in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak.

The trio announced the December shows at Cardiff’s Motorpoint Arena by saying: “We wanted to do something to show our appreciation, love and respect for the NHS and its amazing brave workers. One free show and one fundraising show seemed the best way for us to express our deep gratitude for all their heroic work.”

The first show, on 4 December, will be free for all UK NHS workers, and will be available to apply for at 7pm on Friday 10 April. Tickets are limited to two per worker, with workers allowed to bring a non-NHS guest. Any staff that work within an NHS hospital are eligible, “including, but not limited to, doctors, nurses, support workers, porters and cleaners”.

The following night will be a fundraising concert available to anyone, with proceeds going to NHS Wales. There is a limit of four tickets per person, and they will also be available on Friday 10 April, via Ticketmaster.
