I think $100 is a bit expensive for a postcard sized print.

I was hoping they might have had something by Ernst Haas. It was seeing his book The Creation that made me change from doing a fine art painting course to do photography instead.

They've got one of my favourite all time pictures in there

Actually its a version of, not the original publish one, but I think I may even like it more.

I wish they had some Sebastiao Salgado, or Miguel Rio Branco too.

i have questions - what is "estate stamped"? and these are c-type prints?

Estate stamped means that the estate of photographer, i.e. whoever manages their back catalogue of images has stamped to verify its original, if the photographer is dead and can't hand sign.

I was just looking for confirmation of what type of prints they were, normally I associate "museum quality" as c-type, but realistically, they could be anything.

From the FAQ's, I was wondering the same thing.

    FAQs

All prints are archival quality and are approved by the photographer. We work closely with our photographers to ensure that all editions are presented according to their intentions. To be precise, these are digital C-Prints on Fuji Crystal Archive Matte paper.

An estate stamp is used to signify authentication and is issued by the estate of the photographer (photographers who are no longer alive are represented by their estates). All estate stamps are applied individually by hand.

    aha, thanks :)

yeah i think the 6x6s and 10x8s are all c-type. interested in what specifically makes museum or archival prints...

Anyone got any idea of what the usual price on these is?

C-type is printing on standard photographic paper, the sort you'd use in a darkroom (I use Fuji Crystal Archive myself). Digital printers can do the same using lasers or LEDs. The C is for chromogenic apparently as in the colours are generated in the paper, rather than applied to it as with an inkjet print.

    How much was postage?

I'm trying to work out costs for postage and if I get stung for duty.

    $25.81

There's a duty calculator on the shopping trolley page when you put something in. You only are allowed 1 go though, after that it's paywalled.

I think I'm covered, hopefully won't get hit again by UPS for VAT etc.

then why pay $100? I'm baffled

    I wasn't being entirely serious.

They're signed (or estate stamped if the photographer is dead). Better print quality and paper than doing it at home (for 99% of people). You're basically buying the next best thing to an original.

any photographer with any sense puts out lo-res images for web - they're not printable at larger sizes.

c-type printing is expensive. even if you could get hold of a hi-res file
