Mandelson gets face full of green custard in Heathrow protest

From the BBC article

Home Secretary Jacqui Smith told Sky News' Sunday Live programme: "I don't think in a democracy where people are able to speak up that anybody should chuck custard at anybody in the street. It's not appropriate."

These fuckers are either oblivious dimwits or machiavellian cretins.

I hope it's the former, but the longer this bullshit drags on the less im inclined to think so.

It's an assault, surely?

Of course it's an assault and a very twatish one too. Don't get me wrong I thought it was mildly amusing but I just don't like these sort of groups because they achieve fuck all, pull stupid stunts and generally piss everyone off with the disruption they cause.

"Yeah, let's throw custard at people and run about on runways cause that'll make the politicians change their minds and get the public on our side" Twats

That's a highly simplistic and none-too-articulate view of what climate change groups actually do, packed with sweeping generalisations and utterly devoid of serious critique, methinks.

I suggest you go away, do some research and actually find out what climate change groups (and direct action groups in general) actually do and how they go about it before spouting this sort of thing.

How is it full of sweeping generalisations? all this 'plane stupid' group have done is walked onto runways, which disrupted people's journeys and pissed alot of people off, and thrown custard into a politician's face. Has anything been achieved by this? no, do the majority of people support them? hell no is the third runway gonna go ahead? most likely.

While I don't disagree with some direct action, strikes etc, I do disagree with stupid stunts like these, especially as their done by the sort of people who contribute a vast amount to global warming, more so than people going on holiday once a year.

I do think they have a point but I don't agree with their methods that's all.

I agree when it was said that she is middle class ,but so were the suffragettes and they did help win the the vote for women.so she is probabbly a cranky eco warrior but you can't always chose who your allies are .after all we sided with that bastard stalin in ww2

Stalin and Leila, both mass murderers and dictators...

They are keeping the airport issue on the agenda, and making politicians realise how unpopular a third runway is. What action do you think they should take, they can't strike?

There are many parallels between Plane Stupid and the anti-roads protestors of the 1990s. They used Direct Action to try and prevent new roads being built. Whilst they didn't stop any of the roads they actually protested about, they were influential in causing Labour to abandon most of their future road-building plans.

She was really excellent in the Sky News interview you can find on YouTube. Very articulate about the issue she believes in.

Don't have a problem with disruption but I do have a problem with disrupting ordinary people's lives. Why not go to a conference of aviation again? dress up as planes, let off smoke bombs with slogans "do you wanna live in this?" something like that, I just think there's far smarter ways to get your point across that's all.

No one ever changed their mind being pelted with something. There's far smarter ways to do it. There's also far more pressing issues to do with global warming than airport expansion. Did you know that cold fusion is close? did you know that a man made star has already been created it just can't be held long enough to harness its power? The worldwide budget for this sort of research is $1 billion, that's it and yet no one bats an eyelid. If more money was pumped into this sort of research the world will have a man made star in full operation, one that will power all of our buildings for 1000s of years for fuck all money. This will whipe out a vast percentage of the cause of global warming. Fuck that though, I mean why bother when we can piss about on runways, disrupt people's daily lives and focus on something that causes a very small fraction of carbon output? it looks better and gives us notoriety afterall

Did you know that cold fusion is close?

You know this? You're already being fitted for your suit for the Nobel ceremony?

Industrial-scale hot fusion is, indeed only 40 years off.

Trouble is, it's been only 40 years off since 1958 :(

I may have got my fusions muddled up but yes a man made star has been created but it can't be sustained long enough to harness power. This was on a programe about a month ago I saw on BBC 2. Most of the scientists on that think it will be by the 2020s but look at the budget, it's fuck all. If more money was pumped into it we'd probably have it sooner. I know money isn't the only factor but it's a pretty bloody big one.
