There has been much glee in some quarters at Mandelson getting ’slimed’ with Leila Deen’s ‘Plane Stupid’ green custard, and I must admit that seeing the fopish fucker momentarily distressed was amusing.

And the target this time was an appropriate one.

However it must be remembered that Plane Stupid is made up of a bunch of eco-poshos, funded by the wealthy, who normally don’t bat an eyelid at disrupting air ambulances, or working class peoples’ holiday plans by their antics.

It is also significant that well-to-do Deen didn’t get arrested. I wonder what would have happened had a working class person carried out the ‘attack’ - face down on the floor, knee on my neck, arms up our backs and cuffed we imagine - but of course she is of the same class as our political leaders.

The last paragraph spells out the truth in the situaion, she can probably use it as part of her C.V. for Oxfam or other NGO's aiding the exploitation of the 'developing' world.

However, this action is commendable no matter what class background she comes from as the pollution caused by the expansion of Heathrow affects people of all classes.

He was shocked he did not know what hit him at first. He would have been justified in smacking her in the mouth as she used violence first, no matter if it was a harmless liquid it was an assault. How did he know it was harmless?
It was violence, no matter how minor, throwing something in someone's face is an act of violence. Even if it is only custard or an egg, the reaction from the victim can be violent, leading to more violence.

It's not the issue, unless you happen to be enumbers with his purist class obsession, that is.

The issue is Mandelson's role in rubberstamping and encouraging the third runway at Heathrow, and all the time parading his supposedly Green credentials as a cover for his activities. Mandelson's arch hypocrisy and habitual dishonesty deserves and needs to be highlighted, IMHO.

It's also an issue of whether or not this action serves to keep the issues of climate change and its relation to the proposed third runway in the public eye, which it signally does, judging by the level of media fuss, discussion and debate it has provoked.

And I suppose you have some solid and verifiable evidence that this was staged? As you no doubt have, then feel free to present it to us, for the benefit of everybody.

And it's still too early to predict whether or not charges will be pressed as, although Mandelson isn't pressing charges, the police and CPS can choose to prosecute off their own bat IIRC.

I'm totally against the LHR expansion and, personally, consider that the reformist 'solution' of appealing to the aircraft manufacturers to make more 'green' aircraft is simply a sop for the Green movement and would be, in the face of the scientific consensus around global warming, be like putting a mustard plaster on a bullet wound.
