Manchester City 09/10 thread

There is some terrible bitching going on over at the Red Cafe boards :)

Fingers, reading that that has really made my day. :D:D

They've got Owen, we've got Tevez. What a fine, fine day! The day that the tectonic plates of football began to shift inevitably across the city. I like the fact he will wear the 32 shirt too, just to rub noses :D

On a personal note, I used to go and watch Carlitos when he signed for my team in Brazil, Corinthians, from Boca Juniors. By chance, I saw his last game for Boca at La Bombonera. I saw his first game for Timão at Paceambu - Corinthians won the championship out of the blue that year.

Cannot believe that my team, my endlessly crap Man City, now has a forward line of Carlitos Tevez and Robinho!!!

sorry to hog .. i'm over-excited!

basically this is the place to get the latest news, updated on the hour (I think you have to register). There's a guy called Spursmad who has so far called 6 out of 6 on transfer rumours. He's obviously an insider and I reckon who half the press/SNN are now looking to for tips.

Updated 14/7/09 - 08:59

Carlos Tevez

Deal agreed. 5 years and he will wear the number 32 shirt. He will sign after completing a medical and will fly out to South Africa for the pre season tour

http://www.mcfc.co.uk/

Verdict : Done and Dusted

Samuel Eto'o

Media outlets are reporting we have pulled out following statement made on OS (friday). Been reports that Barcelona are trying to resurect the deal but from our point of view the deal is looking dead in the water. With reports of Adebayor joining, this deal is looking increasingly unlikely unless we're planning on winning every game 9-6 next season. Going quiet on this one. I'll leave it up for now but it's looking very doubtful given the situation with Adebayor.

Verdict : Very Unlikely

John Terry

Media reports suggest we may make another bid for the Chelsea skipper. Various media outlets reporting on Terry's silence since the bid became public knowledge. Was reported in NOTW amongst other papers that Terry had asked to speak with Man City. Doesn't appear to have been much movement today other than Terry's continiung silcence. Continued reports that he wants to speak to us.

Verdict : 50/50 (ish)

Emmanuel Adebayor

Sky Sports broke the story lunchtime 13/7/09. Talks seem to have advanced since then. Deal looks very close. So close that Garry Cook reportedly told a South African radio station that it was done http://www.kickoff.com/static/news/article.php?id=9722

Could possibly be having a medical very soon

Also a picture from an Arsenal board shows Adebayor on our squad list on the OS although it hasn't yet been confirmed as real or photo-shopped.

Mail and Independent reporting it could be done in time to fly out to South Africa
Verdict : Very Likely

Joleon Lescott
The Independent reporting that we will make a move for a Lescott sometime in the near future. HappyBlue and spursmad321 claim this deal is all but finalised, pending Everton bringing in a replacement

Verdict : Likely

Lucio

Reports from Germany last week suggested we were close to signing the Brazilian captain. Reports since have suggested we aren't. Lucio claims he would be happy to stay in Germany but equally happy to begin a new challenge in Europe.

Verdict : Pretty Unlikely

football is shit these days innit?

I remember when jack walker bought blackburn and then bought the title. I remember having an argument with my mates who all thought that it was great that they'd beaten man utd, but couldn't see that man utd had actually brought through some young, english players whereas blackburn had just spent money.

15 years on it still turns the stomach but Blackburn look positively quaint now. I used to have a soft spot for city. I lived about 2 roads down from maine road and would go there every now and again, get a ticket for a tenner on the day. They were always the down to earth counterpart to man utd... less flash, more humility, better humour... not so arrogant.

I said the same thing when chelsea did this. It's shit.

I've been a city fan for 28 years. Of course it's all shit but after winning gary fuck-all in all that time I have to just ride with this one. It's hilarious. And I don't think City fans are going to change overnight. We'll still have the humour.

It's like a new tv show called Pimp my team

I still follow developments but gave up my Prem season ticket 3 years ago and went non-league. Half the Div is about super rich owners waving their cocks at other super rich owners - it's like Saturday night on a small town high street with the kids driving their souped up Astra's.

Except without financial reality - there's no sense of real money anymore as income and expenditure have no relationship.

mwahahahaha ... the mighty Orlando Pirates wiped the floor with our second string. Hilariously bad. Still, nice to see Johnson finally get a run out.

We won't make any new African fans with that performance. Maybe we can hoodwink them with today's purchase of Adebayor.

Senderos to Everton:)

Time to pick a team:

Given

Zab
Lescott
Toure/Onouha
Bridge

Ireland
Barry
Kompany
Petrov/Weiss

Tevez/Robinho
Adebayor/Santa Cruz

Shit I don't envy Hughes' job. I even had to move Stevie to the right but I'm sure he could cope.

It's all a bit depressing, I used to quite like Chelsea in the days of Vialli and Zola, a bit of money there but within reason.

I would say, though, that Man U were the archetypal capitalists, they were the first club to really approach it as a big business with controlled branding home and abroad, and it coincided with silly money from sky. Kenyon was also a ruthless bastard. At least you could argue they earned it though, rather than have it dropped on the table in front of them. Also, having earned it, it's a lot more sustainable than being in the gift of investors or gangsters. I think us hammers are all too painfully aware of that.

Kompany will be unavailable for the Blackburn game but I have a feeling Hughes will go 4-3-3 so it's either de Jong in there or move SuperZab to midfield and risk the roaster at right back if he has recovered from Aya Napa yet.

Wonder how fit Petrov is? I hope Weiss gets a few outings this year as he seems a good prospect. And will Johnson do a Superman or be another Richards and live the highlife?

ETA Shit! Just realised you left out Neddy altogether!

Nothing against the Ned, just too many good players to fit in!

Aye, forgot about Kompany, the options are as you said.

Johnson is a mystery, be amazing if he does a full come back. Weiss was ok against Orlando. I love Petrov in full-flight and I think Richards will grow up a bit.

I love the look of this team more than any other in the Prem. :)

I think Steady Neddy will endure.
Not so sure about Richards. Remember when he had swine flu and was quarantined in his bedroom in that tranquil getaway spot of Aya Napa? The quote was "at first i thought it was foods or alcohol poisoning".

Oh is that billboard for real or a photoshop?

photoshop thread on bluemoon forum based on the 'welcome to manchester' poster which is real (see further up the thread).

i learnt that wahid-wahid is one-all in arabic but watching the al-jazeera streaming of us losing to rangers was about as much fun as a glass of red with bacon-face

I really think they should buy lescott before they start thinking mat upson is a good idea and make me cry.

dave

Most City fans I know favour Fulham's Haageland (sp?) but lescott I think would be good in case Platini gets all nationalistic.

Any of those above bloody Distin. I think Neddy and Toure could grow to be a decent pairing but we need three good CBs. I suspect Komapny could go back there too as there's a three-way fight between him De Jong and Zab for defensive midfielder.

We're a bit shy on the right side of midfield: just SWP and (again) SuperZab - what a buy he was.

Despite all your signings city still have that 'lightweight' feel about them, not sure how else to put it. If they brought terry that would've taken that feeling away i think, but that was never gonna happen.
