Besides, seeing as Wimbledon were franchised out in 2003, it seems a little pointless to carry on about them so far after the event. Far more fun to poke fun at the 'world's (not so) biggest club,' and their delusional supporters.

Man Utd (and Liverpool) will always have a level of fame and glamour that the rest can only dream abouttarannau said:Far more fun to poke fun at the 'world's (not so) biggest club,' and their delusional supporters.

tarannau said:Nope. I'm an old Wimbledon fan - played in the same school team as two Dons to be - so I've little loyalty to any particular Prem team as a result of the franchise shenanigans. I've been to watch AFC a good few times, but you don't tend to support a second team as strongly.
Still, I guess I could wind the clock back down and support the high status team that was big when I was a schoolkid I guess, someone like Liverpool ir Utd, despite having no local ties or loyalty. I could then spend a disproportionate amount of time acting like a steretyped wanker on bulletin board, wholeheartedly joining in with unpleasant 'banter' as if I'm the world's greatest fan, despite never really being arsed to mix with real supporters and watch a live game. But then that would be a little foolish, wouldn't it?

well, obviously enough, in the 30s, when they were - easily - the worlds first superclub. and we've always been there or thereabouts, i'd say our level of fame/standibng in some countries overseas ain't that far short of 'PoolDRINK? said:When was that? Don't think anyone else in the UK comes close to Man utd or Liverpool in the fame and glamour stakes, not that it is of huge importance and is the whole thing that gets sand in taranaus vagina

sorry, no 100% wrong. we still had the carried-over advantage of having played the game for so long before exporting it, and arsenal were, at the time, and due to herbert chapman, unquestionably and far and away the UK's biggest club, also quite possibly the world's biggest club (none outside england were old enough to rival them); they were also the polar opposite of isolationist, arranging friendlies with continental rivals and hosting internationals left right and centre.Deareg said:how do you work that out? i thought that during the 30ties english clubs were still in isolationist mode, they might have possibly been the most famous in england, i would have thought that wolves had some claim to being more famous than arsenal outside of england
