Man Utd fans protesting against their own

So, who here is actually from the city of the team they support?

:D

not all team come from cities you know :)

Why anyone not from the Wirral would support Tranmere, gawd only knows. Not that many people do, apart from those oddball Norwegians

Not sure how it works for us London fans.

Personally I think its down to the first bit of your post code matching that of the team you support.

doesn't matter a fuck where you are born or live, support whatever team you want to support, especially if for some reason you feel some kind of affinity with it

I think it matters. People who follow teams like Manure or the Mickeys without any proper reason such as family links or similar are not fans. They are just customers.

Being a South London boy I loathe seeing people on this side of the water supporting teams like Arsenal or Chelsea so you can guess what I think about 'Cockney Reds' or similar twats.

disagree with you completely, some of the most die hard united supporters i have come across were cockney reds when i lived in London, same here in Belfast, their are a new breed of supporter anyway since the advent of live televised football, about 20 or so years ago i got interested in basketball for a while because i started watching a programme on channel 4 Saturday mornings and started taking a big interest in the LA lakers simply because they were the team that seemed to be getting the most coverage, i imagine it is the same now with football for a lot of people

yes, but if that affinity is because they win things then they deserve to have the piss taken out of them. It says something about the person. ;)

No they aint. Its all about the river.

At this rate you will be claiming that Buckingham Palace is in South London.

And as for all you other glory hunting muppets who dont support your local team then I pity you more than loathe you although the margin for error means that there aint much in it.

Next time one of you Surrey 'Reds' pulls on their latest replica shirt and begins to think that anybody gives a monkeys about Ronaldo and whether he goes or not just remember that. There is something seriously deficient in your mentality which makes you like you are. No real fan, including those who actually have a justification for supporting which ever Premier league 'dream' team you claim to 'supprt' likes you or wants you around.

Supporting a team because they get a lot of coverage is like choosing one brand of a lager over another because you like the adverts.

You aint a supporter, you are a customer.

When I was growing up the nearest professional team to me was 65 miles away. The next nearest was 110 miles away. For an eight year old kid that is a lot of miles for loyalty/afinity to travel. So maybe I was a glory hunter by starting to support Liverpool in 1977 but I had as much connection with them back then as I did with Swansea or Cardiff - ie none. A lot of kids in rural areas, especially in Ireland and Wales, end up supporting Man Utd or Liverpool (or another big team) because they don't have a local team to support.

I will encourage my sons to support Cardiff when they grow up because it's their local team. It's the city where they were born. I didn't have that luxury when I was a kid.

I was born in the city of the team I support. But I've lived in London for the last ten years and there's no way I'm going to become a gooner. No way.

it more than likely tells you what their age was, as in my experience most people start supporting teams at quite a young age

To go back to the OP, out of interest, do you believe that supporters of any club shouldn't speak out against employees of that club regardless of what they do?

^ Agreed(deareg) total bollocks. Personally i think too much is made of 'oh you must support the team where you live', what if you don't like the team from where you live then eh?(for the record, arsenal are the closest team to me, so if i wanted to be a glory hunter and support a winning team, i could've gone for them) you guys on urban who think that way should grow up a bit. That's all im gonna say cause i can't be fucked arguing over this immature rubbish.

Crap. You're full of shit, so don't presume to speak for anyone else.

I speak for everybody who supports their local team and has to put up with glory hunting twats walking around in replica shirts. I speak for people who go along week in, week out to support teams who are run on a budget of less than what the top clubs pay for the likes of Ronaldo for a single season. Proper football.

I loathe what Sky sports have done to our game and I want to vomit whenever I see coaches full of Yeovil 'Reds' or similar going up the motorways.

Real football is about belonging to something, being part of it. Yes, we all get shafted by our football clubs in one way or the other and generally do get taken for mugs but when a team like Cardif reach a cup final or the likes of Barnsley get to beat Chelsea then it means far more to those fans than any number of Premier league titles or (not the) Champions league cups do to the majority of supposed 'fans' of clubs like Manure or the Mickeys.

You glory hunters should try and find out what it really means to be fans.

Oddly enough I do have some sympathy for those people from Manchester who do support United because whilst it must be amazing to see your team achieve what they do it must also stick in the craw to see something that is part of who you are touted around the world like some designer brand.

Got just three words for ya: Get over it.

On ignore you go, cause really, its tiring reading the same whiny, ranting, bitterness from immature people like you Stoat. Things are not as big as you're making them out to be, something tells me deep inside, you're just naturally angry and looking for more reasons to be angry. I'm not a man utd fan(or of one of the big four), btw.

who the fuck elected you? i don't remember any elections, do you think out of town supporters only started with sky?

Leeds. Put money on it. They have always attracted a special type of non-yorkshire born or bred twonk.

Self loathing/identity crisis maybe?

Glory fans are a bit of a joke really.

However if I moved to that London (for example) I would go and see a side, I'd fancy QPR or possibly Fulham, maybe Orient. I dunno, depends where I lived I guess.

They'd never be my team of course, not in the heart like my "birth side" :D
