man smells

My dad wore Aramis.

I used to like to play around with toiletries and cosmetics and stuff when I was a kid. Like the time I spilled all the bath salts on the bathroom floor and pushed them in between the floorboards so no one would notice and refilled it with talc. Or the time I poured most of the Aramis down the sink while we were on holiday and filled the bottle back up with water and denied all knowledge even though the bathroom was just about uninhabitable because of the smell for days.

I had a boyfriend who used to wear Davidoff cool water and I used to love it. I had a sniff of it in superdrug before Christmas and it didn't smell anything like I remembered.

depending on mood.

Fancy getting something more citrussy soon though, I once had some Issy Miyake that was really melony and gorgeous

I think that's the same with a lot of scents, whether aimed at men or women. I don't want to go all Brexit/Daily Mail on you all but IIRC it may be something to do with EU directives on not using animal-derived products (which is a good thing).

I don't think Estee Lauder Pleasures (not the most original choice but a lovely smell) is the same as it used to be when it came out in the mid-90s, and there are a few others about which I'd say the same (trying hard to remember which ones I mean and failing for now).

I used to wear pleasures, in fact I wore it at my wedding. Again had a sniff of it while passing through Boots for old times sake.

Do you think it smells different (lighter and more synthetic) than it used to?

The smell you get from a person wearing perfume is a mix of the scent itself AND the scent of the person mixed together. I used to have a girlfriend who wore Chanel No5, I have had a whif of others wearing it but the combined scent is never exactly the same.

It is a very light and floral perfume, I thought that my own tastes had changed.

Possibly not. (sad but true) I had a very old bottle with just a whiff left and it is a deeper, more complex and intense smell...now it is still nice but very light and not long-lasting.

I was reading something online about perfumes changing while looking for a long-lasting smell (I love Chanel Chance but it seems to wear off after about an hour) and a lot of people were saying perfumes they used to love had changed slightly.

I wear Endymion by Penhaligons every day, both in deoderant and cologne. I really, really love it, and have made it my smell. I've also got a deoderant and cologne for their Sartorial too, which I love, but have to be sparing with as it's a much stronger smell imho. I wear Sartorial on days when I've got to be up at stupid o'clock for work, usually when I have to get a 6am train across country or something. Normally I shower every morning, but on days like that I shower the night before to maximise morning sleeping time, so I go with Sartorial in order to cover up that I'm not quite as freshly showered that day as I usually am. I also find it lasts a lot better after a sweaty day of running around London for different meetings and so on.

I've got a full bottle of their Elixir too, which I bought when I loved a sampler of it, but have since got a bit tired of, given it's largely just a churchy incense smell. Still, nice to wear in winter, and around christmas especially.

Finally, I've got a bulging baggie of free samples I've amassed from every time I've been into one of their shops and bought something from them. Occasionally on a random day lounging around the house I break one out and give it a go. Most have no labels on, so it's entirely pot luck, but generally a good idea. Although I did it a couple of days ago, and before I noticed, I was covering my face and neck with...Endymion again. Bugger.

I used to really fancy a boy at school who wore it. Every time I smell it now it takes me right back to those days.

Funny how scent hits you like that, isn't it? I used to go out with a girl who always wore White Musk and I still go a bit gooey whenever I smell it on someone else even now. :o :D

My rule of thumb for women and men is that perfume should only be detectable when you are close enough to kiss!
I think getting a gentle waft of a woman's perfume when she walks past is lovely but it shouldn't knock you over, and the scent definitely shouldn't remain when the person has gone. The lifts in our block smell like a department store perfumery most mornings.

There are cultural differences too. Middle Eastern folk often layer several different scents and put it on their clothes and hair which can be quite overpowering to those not used to it.

I like sartorial cus I used to work in an embroiderers and I totally smell the tailor shop in it

anyone know about fabric softener smells, I just got one thats bluebell and bergamont and it smells pretty manly imo

I got Quercus on one wrist and Opus 1870on the other, preferred the latter on application, but the Quercus is actually winning right now. FYI, lads.
