Mallorca

Cheers belboid! looks great. got a walking guidebook for the G221 which has been good reading so far. did a 25k walk the other day, but will be aiming for a mix of easy and a bit more strenuous.

Magaluf is where you want to be.

would actually appreciate some serious advice/help stan! i'm sure there's plenty you could spare, you usually have some great suggestions n you've only just recently been over that part of the world!

i've only got 5 or 6 days and i can't be fucked or can't afford to get the ferry to any of the other Balearic islands, so Mallorca is where i'll be.

Good call for a short holiday? It does sound great. I'm also keeping other places in Spain as possibilities to live for a while, for when/if I move.

sounds cool, hrmm, maybe i'll buy a small light tent, but i'm probably mainly gonna do couch surfing or airbnb. those refuges sound pretty useful as long as you get 'em booked in advance, though. I don't think you can just rock up?

i'm probably gonna try and get things a bit more sorted in the next week or two cos I expect it'll be pretty busy at easter holiday times, with domestic spanish tourists at least, anyway.

lol spanish people don't do hiking. as a generalisation. but one based upon fact.

the countryside is for driving, eating, skiing and maybe doing biking or extreme sports. but walking? no chance. although in mallorca I think they're more into it, cos the couch surfing hiking group is pretty big and they don't all look to be forrins :D

some up to date info please?
Good, low cost ways to get to Spain from UK?
Travelling with children 10 & 14 who want sun and snorkelling
thanks

Palma de Mallorca is one of the biggest airports in Spain. So, y´know. Fly there. Probably cheapest, fastest and easiest.

Orrrrr. Get the eurostar to Paris, train to Barcelona and then get the ferry to Mallorca from BCN. That would be interesting, and is the real way to travel bla bla blah... if you can afford it. check out that website for tran travel info www.seat61.com/

We are in agreement :)

could try snorkelling but I suspect you'd get tired after about an hour.

and then drown.

My tactic was to get tired, then get out of the water. First place I tried snorkeling, Mallorca, bloody loved it.

pollenca, soller or palma accommodation recomendations plz? pm or here, ta. left it a bit late n tried air bnb a bit but not got it that organised. the time has come, cos it's semana santa and I don't want to be stressed about it.

is lluc worth stopping in? we don't have loads of time, that's the only thing.

ah really looking forward to it now! i've barely been out of andalucía in the past year or more, mallorca should be different.

Did you go to Mallorca Riklet and how was it? Good walking?

I shall be there in May to attend a social function but will have a few days after to knock about.

GREAT walking. Very much recommend it. Gotta get away from the main areas for the good walks but everythingis very accessible.

Lluc, Soller and Deyá have some great walks. Worth investigating online n asking when there. You can also stay in the monastery up the hill at Lluc I think. Pretty sure theres a walking trail all the way from Palma, which is a very nice little city btw.

The corresponding ports are more touristy n expensive than the inland villages but still accessible. Just depends what youre looking for! Pm me if you have any more Qs.

Oh btw, theres a touristy dinky steam train between Soller and Palma which we had fun on! Really cool n good views.

We're off to Soller in June and planning to use the vintage train to get there from Palma (and back again with possibly a day trip to see Palma in the middle, as it's apparently a lovely city)! I need to look at its times to see if that's feasible...

Just see Palma the day before you fly, or stay a night there before you head up to Soller. Its def worth a day or two without turning it into a mission. Once in Soller I would go up to Lluc or Alcudia if you want bigger beaches n Roman history. West coast will be quieter n nice to explore tho im sure.

The Boquer Valley, Mallorca - Panoramic Earth Virtual Tour

We did this walk from Puerto Pollensa, through the valley down to the small beach at the end... only accessible by foot, not a bathing sort of beach , more a ' thank god we've got here' sort of beach. We found an upturned goat's skull on a stick and a lot of driftwood, but a very good 3km walk through the valley...lots of birds, butterflies, plants, goats and mountains rising up each side of the valley.
