When you get here, do your best to slow time down, or it will all be over too quick. But since you mention you are leaving your job... i came here for an expected few months of travel in 1991 and basically never went home! It just seemed the best place to be in life when i got here, so just a mild warning about your near future!

absolutely :D ;)

Bangkok's great. Apart from the stuff going on within, it's increasingly easier to get out into the world beyond Bangkok. They seem to be getting a grip on the infrastructure now. If you've ever been to the hell that is Jakarta, where it can still take four or five hours to get out of the city, you really appreciate this.

Yeah, Bangkok's a lot better these days than it was say 10 years ago in terms of transport. Love the skytrain; like stepping into a refrigerator after being in a sauna. In fact, Thailand's got the best public transport in the region. Easy and cheap.

Man, you're right about Jakarta! Totally insane traffic. The pollution mixed in with the humidity was so bad I found it difficult to be outside for longer than half an hour or so. Physically draining and really quite depressing. When you approach the city from the airport, passing all the slums built under the motorway, there's a clearly visible curtain of pollution just hanging over the place. I found Jakarta quite a sinister place in certain respects.

IMe if the mozzies are already established a good fan beats air con every time.

Last night slept in the living room while I paint the bedroom I was bitten all night with a 9000btu air con blasting on the bed. Tonight I am sleeping with the fan on, the mozzies hate it more than the air con.

On another note I cannot recommend having electric mosquito fryer enough, after using and sometimes breaking many models the executioner is the best one I have bought so far (still going after 2 years of frying)
