Macs vs. PCs - An epic bunfight. No polite posts please.

yes, except this thread isn't about anything concrete like a piece of real technology, it's a thread based entirely on some vapourware and the usual iHype wank, therefore discussion will tend to pivot around such hype and the muppets who buy into it.
that's a very narrow band view point of tech stuff tbh ... to my mind that includes vapour ware and progression of existing technology.

the folio was a good example of vapour ware yet there was little in the way of well palm are a captialist company making hard earned cash from over prices techology comments. when considering the cost of the tech these days all tech is overpriced that's the cost of early adoption and for being bleeding edge. it costs more.

If you aren't affluent enough to be able to do bleeding edge but have an intrest in the area or subject matter it stands to reason that you might be intrested in discussing new developments.

Just as one might do if on support a football team or should one only ever comment on football if you are in the industry or have sufficent wealth to own a team?

that's essentially the arguement which is repeated every bloody time: my dad's bigger than your dad, my teams better than your team etc etc...

It's just dull if you aren't intrested in the thread then fuck off trolling it and go and do something more productive with your tiny little lives;

On their death beds:
Macbashers: god i wish i'd spent more time online arguing about which hardware was cooler, what idiots mac users are for likeing their machines or os.....

I mean really...

it's a flavour of juice nothing more, so you like ornage and barley and others like blackcurrent and apple, there's more than enough room for both in the market place and for users to decide. Without the need for near fanatical rabid attacks on those who drink a juice you don't...

ffs...

What was the point of making this a separate thread? It's some uninformed plonker mouthing off for effect; like a child who's shat his pants and is shouting for attention.

Did such trolling really deserve its own thread. I think folks have done well to entertain the pillock for so long to be honest.

Just for some afternoon fun, really.

can you remvoe the editors post and stick them here too then for fairness or is it that he's allowed to troll the original thread but no one can respond to him except via this one...

PCs and Macs are both highly capable operating systems.

At the higher end there are some subtle advantages and disadvantages to each, but for most folks both are perfectly good for accomplishing their tasks in all mainstream consumer areas of computing.

I always recommend that people get the one that suits their budget, style choices and personal preference of OS.

Ithankyou.

It's not me charging into threads with hysterical, bad tempered outbursts and personal attacks, squire.

No need to reply! The server's had enough punishment from you today!

:D

And he seemed such a nice boy too.

:(

Still, as long as there's no requirement to actually take the trolling plonker seriously...

;)

I think the point of the thread is to separate the blatant trolls from those actually wanting to discuss today's announcement. Go for it lads.

Shut the fuck up PC LOVER!!!!

p.s. you're all n00bs

Mac users are universally Nathan Barley-esque poseurs who care more about how their computer makes them look rather than what it can actually do

Wintel PCs are;

Cheaper
Support more hardware
And software
Have better (any) backwards compatibility
With the exception of the OS, are available from diverse vendors.

On the enterprise front they're cheaper and easier to administer - anyone can set up a windows server domain, an exchange server, iis, isa, without pissing about in a CLI, or resorting to newsgroups full of neckbeards. The integration between these products, and between different versions is flawless. Microsoft's documentation and enterprise support are fantastic.

Then, I decided to just do things with my computer, instead of computer fiddling for its own sake. So that's why I bought a mac. It's not for you, as you want to fiddle, and play games and keep your gfx drivers up to date and partition swap drives and all that cool stuff.

I fully understand this sentiment but when I used a Mac I found I still had lots of technical issues and the double whammy of a limited range of expensive hardware and proprietary software made it not worth it.

Oh, and as this a rude thread you're obviously an idiot and your opinion is wrong. :p

Yes. It's the whiff of punters swallowing Apple's PR hype whole and then doing their viral promotional work for them!

Look! It's an Apple banner! Quick! Better post that on a website then!

1st post by you on that thread accusing people of swallowing Apples PR?

no condesention there... right??

editor said:
Oh, I wouldn't be so sure. Really.

Attacking the motives for a poster making a comment after it was pointed out to you you'd missed the joke... again terrible good tempered.

I thought every Mac update - no matter how minor and trivial - had to be heralded as a life changing experience?

Least, that's how Engadget sees it.

Personal attacks on rivals websites in a bad tempered vein ....

LOL at the tragic fanboyz who have queuing for Jobs keynote address since midday yesterday!

nothing needs be said as it's patently evident.

If you are goign to demand such stnadards and rigours then one would respectfully suggest that you should also ahere to them.

Now if you can point out exactly where someone is being bad tempered, or is a personal attack or how exactly they are hysterical to say we know about your one issue drum you are always banging but we aren't intrested so please stop spoiling the conversation for others.

if you can clarify, and in light of your behaviour apologise for you slur on my posts for nothing less than point out what a crushing bore you are being on this subject once again.

I started out on Macs then went PC just due to what was available in my work to use, really.

I still kinda like Macs, though their adverts make me feel a bit sick.

Personal attacks only count if they're against people. Apple fanboys are some sort of protozoa, so at worst it's cruelty to animals.
how about being called a sad toser then for pointing out the tiedium of the oh so funny hil-ari-ous posts which do nothing but say wah wah wah I hate macs all mac users are stooopid wah wah wah... thread after thread after thread ....

tbh the ed's comments about macs tend to wash over me know i've got an inbuilt ingore system which occasionaly is disablled by rank hypocrasy and utter excrement falling from some peoples mouths... usally though it's like hoovering the sound is just drowned out as white noise... :D

I think it's not very often you get someone who knows enough about both platforms and their relative strengths and weaknesses to say anything really informed.

It seemed to me a while back that the platforms were becoming cross-compatible to the point where they might basically be the same thing at some point but this was shot down by the alpha-geeks.

I think Apple are very happy with their position in second place, really.

Geez check out the nerd fight. All you need now is for a Mac user to start secretly dating a PC world rep and you will have a double suicide on your hands.

I hear they're all owned by the same people anyway and it's a 'pretend competition' thing . . .

Well I used macs as my primary machines from about System 7.1 to OS 10.2, and currently admin a mixed Windows 2000/XP, Mac OS 10.3/10.4, Server 2k/2k3/2k8(testing) network and have a Vista HTPC back home. Does that count?

I'm a mac user who uses both platforms at work. Used to work on Access databases and with SQL query tools, even used to spec functional requirements for PC based CRM tools. Does that make me a traitor?

I is confused.

ExtraRefined: - Seems you're an exception, then.

My summing up would be:

Windows PC:
+ More bang for your buck.
+ Infinitely customisable.
- Viruses/safety
- Crashy
- 'Beige box' factor

Mac:
+ Ergonomically more sensible.
+ Less crashes.
- Compatibility issues
- Can lead to insufferable smugness
- Pricey

I'm quite happy with Mac. End of. You won't find me sitting outside the apple shop waiting for any new releases though (or conversely somewhat pathetically scouring the net for pictures of such people for the purposes of trolling).

Mac is just easier and nicer to use. I'm not running Excel or whatever the fuck it is u MS fanboys love so much about your OS though, so can't comment on relative performance there.

If you're referring to me, the aforementioned picture was on the front page of one of the planet's most popular tech blogs.

So no 'scouring the net' ('pathetic' or otherwise) was needed. In fact, it was no different to KE posting up the Mac advert, although I didn't go ahead and spam it all over the boards, of course.

As far as I'm concerned, anyone camping outside overnight for just a tech keynote speech is fair game, whatever the product/company. I thought it was funny, that's all. No slur intended on Apple products (not that I can see any valid connection, but there you go).

i want a mac now so I can join in these with "well I have windows, *nix AND a amac and I prefer..."

they are all shit
they are all good

depending on what you use them for

now seeing as microsoft give me thousands of pounds worth of software for free I am now obliged to say that I love M$ and vista never falls over.. ever. Not even in guild wars oh no sireee. (mind you that is the only prog I have a problem with)

ahhh fuck it.

lets sort this out by having a big fight behind canary warf next tuesday

Built and ran my own PC at home for 4 years. Used to adminster Novell servers. Have used macs since 1988 at work.
Did half a computer science degree (had to drop out - it was full of brown anorak wearers in HighTec trainers like EthanRefined and Revol).
