So it's Macedonia v England tonight. Any predictions? Anyone actually give a fuck? There's hardly a sense of national excitement....

I'm interested though. I enjoyed going to the 5-0 win v Andorra, despite the gulf in class and despite the police's ridiculous (and ultimately unsuccessful ) attempts to ban alcohol from the trains going up to Manchester It's only early days, but getting a good result will stand us in good stead for later in the qualifying when we've got to go to places like Croatia and Russia looking for points.

The team i'd like to see tonight would include Lennon at the expense of Lampard...with Stevie G in the middle with Hargreaves. McLaren won't do it though!

I too would like Lampard dropped for Lennon. FL's never really done it for England has he? I know he was compromised by Eriksson playing him alongside Gerrard but he was still very much second best to a below-par Stevie G. I also reall hope Downing stays in the team when Cole comes back because he offers so much more balance by not coming inside all the time. Playing with two orthodox wingers in Lennon and Downing would be great.

i agree, Lennons a great playe when he's given half a chance,
subing him off for Caragher against Portugal was a terrible decision, he missed his penalty anyways

i'd like to have seen gerrard in the middle at the expense of Lampard, but to say "He's never really done it for England" is forgetful at best.

For all his sub par performances at the world cup, he was the top scorer in the qualifiers and put in some class performances. especially in the home games against Austria and Poland
