These arguments are always about taste and opinion. 'I don't like the Beatles' is a perfectly fair position to take.

Obviously you're free to criticise people for their views if you like, but your stuff about 'validity' makes you seem like a self appointed arbiter of some sort of objective viewpoint, in an argument where it doesn't really wash, IMO.

God - don;t you lot feel strongly about your anti-Beatles stance

Tom, by your ludicrous pronouncements viz taste, argument, prejudice, ill-thought out opinions, you've opened up a whole can of worms in a more general sense which you now can't account for. think about it.

if it applies to the beatles, it applies in general. if you think about your pronouncements in the wider sense, you'll see what bollocks it is.

I haven't been arguing about the Beatles though, have I. I made my view clear enough.

I've been arguing about your rubbish about 'valid' viewpoints.

tom, some questions:

2) how can you tell the difference between sheer bloody prejudice and a strongly held opinion

I've met too many people in the past who have held a completley arbitrary Beatles-hating stance (or Presley, country music, etc). Some of them were my friends - so I knew if it was prejudice or not. Plenty will admit that it is. I'm convinced that when someone comes on a Macca discussion and mentions the Frog Chorus its tedious, pointless as not even McCartney fans like that stuff, and clearly not the mark of someone who knows much about MacCartney's output.

I'm only telling it like it is. You obvioulsy don;t like to hear it do you?

It seems the Beatles get special treatment in this respect. Its 'cool' to criticise them.

let's have a look at all the other threads where bands are criticised. Babyshambles, Hard Fi, Carole fucking King. is it 'cool' to criticise them?

the irony, Tom, is that there is one - and one only - person on this thread who is treating the Beatles differently. and it's not those criticising them. it's you.

that's a rather puerile response to a reasonably expressed statement, Tom.

ok - apologies, but i've seriously had enough of this.

I'm probably wrong.

I apologise to all.

I retract all my statements.

Is that OK?
