Macbook or Sony Vaio?

What was the problem? I've been told it works flawlessly, and it's a big part of my wanting to switch next time I need a new machine...

Oh, just losing all my music, pics, vids, portfolio...

The 'Mac Genius' (what Apple call their engineers) said its quite common.

Stick to Parallels... better anyway - windows just runs as an app, so sits in your dock like any other app rather than being windows alone.

Usability is a telling omission from your list editor!
It's not actually. I was just giving some examples of why someone might prefer a Windows machine.
Windows is fucking awful, despite their best efforts at ripping off OSX.
Well, you're welcome to your opinion but there's more than enough professionals working in a wide variety of fields getting on just fine with Windows. In fact, there's considerably more, so they must be getting something right.

Personally, I think they're both as good/bad as each other, with each having their own strengths and weaknesses.

As for the 'ripping off OSX' fanboy stuff, save that for a dull Macs Vs PC thread, eh?

I aint a fanboy ed. Some of the apple bullshit makes me sick - see my post about the 'Mac Genius'. I actually saw two iPeople chest pump each other after making a sale while I was waiting to see my Genius. I go to that place under duress.

I use both OS's and Mac is incomparably better for the way I use it. If I was doing web design or something techie, I'd use Windows. For home use (and print design which is my job) I'd say go for Mac.

You're fucking kidding right?

Most of those Macbook Pros will still be going to creative pros. Folks like PK, Fridge and many others aren't a mirage of uninformed blokes paying well over the odds. The Macbook pro's feels a far more solid and pleasant to use machine than the Dell, although the basic specs and processor speed of your Dell stack up well.

You're right, there aren't many sad overaged gamers buying pros as gaming laptops. Apple leave that market to Dell and their plasticky contraptions.

;):p

Of course there are people who make use of the gfx card, but I doubt it's anything like a majority of Macbook Pro users.

I'm 26, just!

The cover of my Dell is a sort of slick rubberised plastic, doesn't feel remotely cheap. Anyway, I recommended the Mac!

Don't you make yourself feel just a tiny bit sick? :D

I have an XPS and a Macbook Pro... the XPS hasn't been touched since I got the Macbook ;)

I got the truck Chris :):)

That's a reply to a wired article not the one i posted.

I posted this

http://machinist.salon.com/feature/2008/03/18/true_enough_excerpt_2/

which begins with

In the fall of 2004, Walt Mossberg, the Wall Street Journal's influential tech columnist, reviewed Apple's latest desktop computer, the iMac G5. He absolutely loved the thing; you can tell from his first paragraph, which would not have been out of place at a beatification: "I am writing these words on the most elegant desktop computer I've ever used, a computer that is not only uncommonly beautiful but fast and powerful, virus-free and surprisingly affordable," he wrote.

I'm looking to buy a macbook or macbook pro..the one thing that is tempting me to get a pro is that the new ones have Multi Touch - so you can use the touchpad like the iPhone - all pinchy and scrolly and tomcruiseyinminorityreporty

Now I absolutely LOVE my current Macbooks touchpad which has a 2 fingers to scroll option - couldn't go back now tbh!..but not having used the iPhone I have no idea whether Multi Touch is the next step up, or an innovation too far...I certainly don't need the graphics card so this is the ONLY feature pushing me to pay that extra whack - any advice??

My current Macbook (refurb) will have to go back to the menders as the plastic on the front edge snapped off...(a known issue)...but it will then go to a very happy home running ProTools in my voiceover studio

(oh and to the OP I'd deffo recommend going for the mac especially as your first lappy...IMO....because the new vaio with vista I've been working on is sluggish even with maxed out ram and all the whizzy options turned off)
