Mac vs PC - The Poll!

Given a choice I'd rather use:

i know.... jesus

and one guy asked me if i used a pc or a mac when i said pc he said "well i guess you're not creative".....
This school of thought is exactly the aim of Apple's marketing. Looks like it worked. I'm the least creative person in the world, I can't draw or do any art or write music, I use a Mac because I find it more reliable for my every day tasks, and less likely to become infested with virus'. The OS is smoother and more user friendly for me. Simple as that.

So your definition of 'poor' is someone who's already got a PC but can't afford a brand new shiny Mac?

LOL! Comedy gold!

Anyone else find it funny?

Most households have a PC now. It was your definition of poor as someone that can't afford to spunk almost a grand on a luxury item that I found more laughable, actually.

actully i lie

i mainly work on windows but at work i run a web server with linux

not that any one really uses it... oh except that i got it running as a print server too.... now tell me why i can get windows to use it get linux to use it but one or two of the macs just can't see the fucker... and apple own cups for fucks sake

Why don't they buy a second hand Mac then? Or is only brand spanking new good enough for them?

To define being poor as "not being able to buy a brand new, luxury electronics item to replace their current, less stylish model" is ludicrous in the extreme.

This may not be related to your comment above - But could you argue that one other reason folk are put of off macs is the reaction of IT staff in workplaces where they hide their lack of knowledge of the mac operating system behind other 'reasons' :)

Because buying a new computer is not top of the lists of needs or wants? Jesus, all I said was that they'd been impressed with the Mac and expressed their preference for one as their next machine. You always warn of these threads becoming bunfights, yet it's you thats always among the most argumentative and aggressive.

i had one who said i should be using safari on widows...

when i asked why he said "well your a web designer right?"

apparently firefox just isn't good enough

Fair enough if he meant from the PoV that it'd be an advantage to be able to test in as many browsers as possible... but from what you say I get the impression that he meant you should use it as your main browser... I use Firefox on my Mac over Safari, I just think it's nicer, plus the addons are awesome.

A couple of arty friends i have to help out occasionally (ramming a mini cd into the cd slot - that sort of level of stupidity) are a bit like that.

'i buy creativity' - its an excellent salesploy for ejets :D

if i was ws doing more web design stuff, or into gaming i would definatly be using a pc - but i'm not

(yep, i use firefox to on my mac - safari dosen't compare)

dunno never worked in a place like that... at our place the IT department is whatever they can get me to do in my spare time and i know shit all about macs or linux to be honest (beyond the basics anyhow)

just about all the computers at our place are macs and most of the staff use macs... i'm a bit of an odd one out to be honest

actully i must say... it's really difficult to find help with macs the way you can find help with windows and linux... i tried looking for some decent starter turorials on apple script a while back but i couldn't get anywhere really

your impression is right

it's supprising really because right then what i had done was browsed to his site fired up the webdeveloper toolbar done some css tweeks then uploaded it all to his site with the fire ftp plugin...

and he also complained about the browser menu being in the same window not on the tool bar.... (apparently it's a poor design)... actually i'll give him that one.... i don't agree with it personally but it's a valid point of view...

Don't get me fucking started. I had to call Sky recently because I had no internet connection coming into my router, the twat asked me to wave the router aroudn to see if I get a better signal. I explained that the internet connection was supplied via the phoneline, and the position of the router would only affect the signal I got from it on my computer, and not whether or not an internet connection was being recieved into the router in the first place. He insisted that I wave the router around, because a thick wall might be blocking the signal. "No, the connection comes in through a wire from the telephone point below it." Didn't get it at all.

Aye, I'm dreading phoning Demon. They're probably on OS9.
I once spent ages talking to some guy in a call centre in India and he seemed to be taking his time answering stuff and after half an hour I heard a book fall on the floor...he was trying to tell me what do do from the fucking manual - they didn't even have a Mac in the call centre at the time (about 4 years ago)

you poor sod - i've mainly worked in pc places where they want to set up an in-house pubs department (i 'do' print graphics) but the IT poop themsleves when i mention the option of a mac.

And it understandable - most IT services are trained to use what are the majority of computers in most offices. Thats eminently sensible if you want to find work. And yep, most support and advice available is going to be for the systems that dominate the market as well - simply becsue more people know and work with those systems. It does piss me of though when they make up a load of old tommy rot (from 'IT consultants' that the organisation I worked for used) about the very idea of getting a mac rather than just be honest and say 'look this is a different computer system used by less than 10% of the population so we cannot guarantee being able to provide the support for this platform - its a factor you should consider when making a decision'. Then again it may be just that I am embittered about IT types... :)

They have a step by step style FAQ software program. It prompts them to ask a question, then they select your response, which prompts the next question.

the only thing i truly hate in the place i work is the database

because it's filemaker

i hate filemaker

i really fucking hate filemaker

sql mother fucker can you use it?

perhaps

but that mac/pc ad does make me want to stab people in the neck

many times over

That was about the only part I agreed with.

Actually it was you throwing around the unpleasant personal abuse first right here, so don't try dishonestly shifting the blame.

Yes, a personal insult for you laughing at the poor. Which, coming from the owner of a prominent leftie website, seems a bit daft. I don't think i'm the only one that finds your tone on these mac/pc threads to be unneccessarily aggressive.
