M1 widening to cost 5 billion

Cobbles, what about those of us, like me, who can't drive due to a medical condition? I'm eager to here your proposal for me.

Hire a chauffeur - it's probably tax deductible if you've got a decent accountant.

Even for an attention seeking common oik like you, this is pretty desperate stuff.

Cobbles, I'm still waiting for a reply about what those of us who are unable to drive due to medical conditions should do. It's on the first page of this thread if you need a reference.
What we do is introduce a law that car drivers have to pickup hitchhikers and drive them to their destination. Any driver failing to pickup a hitchhiker gets banned from driving for life. ;)

Where in this thread have you referenced another thread please?

And you'll find that Cobbles has a long, long history of posting up reactionary nonsense, so what is your point?

I'm as entitled to my opinions as the tens of millions of others who believe that the road network is woefully underfunded and grudgingly subsidise public transport for the weeny minority who think that there should be more spending on railways and other trash.

What, you mean you haven't thoroughly researched it in order to properly put your point across? I am shocked.

Also, do I get to pick who's tax pays for it? ;)

Right. This is my first post here, so please be gentle!

I think money does need to be spent here. It's the M1 we are talking about. They call it the M1 for a reason. It's the motoring backbone of the country.

I don't believe in getting cars off the road and I can't see how wildlife is going to be affected by a few more lanes of motorway.

I can understand why some people have concerns, if we just kept on and on building extra roads.

But there is only so many people, with so many cars. I don't believe it would destroy the country, to have enough roads for enough cars.

I don't drive. I think the government should invest in both the roads and rail.

There'll never be enough roads for enough cars. That's why we have to keep on building more and more, and still they fill up.

And then there's the teensy weensy issues of global warming, pollution, noise and cities becoming over run with cars.
