Yeah, there it is a Trojan Horse - I use Avast and it comes up as such.

Are you winding me up? Have you read the thread? Check with any other anti-virus program, including the highly respected trend micro housecall and you will see it is not a trojan. Fuck Avast, it shows many many non-standard progs as trojans.. check out the threads I linked to. The place I got the patch from , www.oink.me.uk , has had 404 downloads of the program with many positive comments ie.. "This one works.... GREAT WORK !!!!!" and "works!

1. goto win updates and get the genuine validation patch

2. once it downloaded and installed goto c:/windows/system32

3. replace the "LegitCheckControl.dll" with BeN86's file and thats all there is to it!"

There were two people who said "virus" and nothing else, presumably "avast" users. I had not even heard of avast until I mentioned this patch.
I would love to hear from any other person who is using something like NOD or trend micro or a halfway decent anti-virus who claims this is a trojan . It is NOT. It is a very effective patch.

As one poster wrote before it really is very easy to get around - just disable it in the 'manage ad-ons' section of Internet Explorer.

anyone know if this crack still works or if there are any more about?

I am trying to get Directx9 on my mate's computer but he has a 'evaluation' copy of Windows XP

Yep used it to upgrade to SP2 & fully patch a fresh copy of XP only 3 weeks ago.
