Lux Interior is dead

Bad news:(..definately a member of the "live fast-die young" brotherhood tho'.

The Cramps were a one off for sure:cool::cool:

this clip kinda sums it all up
wow, that's a clip from Urgh a music war, which was a video comp of various punky acts and probably what got me into the Cramps in the first place. I was ~15 and just coming thru my heavy metal phase and various headbanger mates were concerned when i later purchased Off The Bone with 3-d cover and specs. I've still got that album (and the picture disc). I saw them live two or three times and Lux rocked out like that every time

Heaven look out, here comes a goo goo muck. RIP Lux.

Absolutely gutting - got back into the Cramps heavily last year and read up on them quite a bit. There are lots of amazing stories around Lux - like also being a crazed hippy who changed his name to "vipvop" and just his general lust for life.

(obligatory link to blog post: http://www.uncarved.org/blog/2008/06/readers-cramp/)

I really admire that total aesthetic The Cramps had, and the way Lux and Ivy ended up acting as amateur curators of a lot of great music which might have disappeared otherwise.

I've only just found out. I'm really gutted. First Ron, now Lux. :(

I was listening to Garbageman only last night. One of my very favourite libidinous songs. This morning I realise it's more like carpe diem:

You gotta beat it with a stick
You gotta beat it 'til it's thick
You gotta live it 'til you're dead
You've got to rock 'til you see red
Now do you understand?
Do you understand?...

-Get it while you can.

He was a b-movie zombie though; he will rise from his grave and walk the earth forever.

Yes, good point. In the same way that I got into a lot of old funk through hip hop, The Cramps were the gateway for me in discovering a lot of fantastic old garage and rock 'n' roll when I was younger. Lux corrupted me. :D

I'm not one for quoting lyrics, but this:

Well when I die don’t you bury me at all,
Just nail my bones up on the wall,
Beneath these bones let these words be seen,
“This is the bloody gears of a boppin’ machine”

:cool::):(

Really?

How sure are we about this yet then?

As far as I'm aware this is an annual rumour that was often started by Lux himself going back 10-15 years or more.................................
reuters on the other hand.
maybe it's just spreading better this season or something.

Honest to God guv'nor I was actually thinking of posting this up as a lie on the Randy & Earl blog recently as a way to write about them and a bunch of the great old music they introduced me too. In the end I couldn't be arsed to do it yet, maybe now I really should.

If it is true, I'm really saddened.

They were so great. :(

he is undead tho' so maybe we shouldn't be too concerned

R.I.P. Lux.
Only saw The Cramps once at some small London college gig with The Fall around 1980. Lux was great, spent half the gig wandering through the crowd topless in leather trousers, he was a great frontman.
The Cramps covered loads of great obscure songs that I probably wouldn't have got to hear otherwise.

I remember them playing on the Tube like it was only yesterday.

Thanks for posting this great clip. I had a tape of that Tube performance that got worn thin I watched it so much. They did 'Hot Pearl Snatch' and 'Can Your Pussy Do The Dog?' on it too. It ended up with Lux writhing around on the floor and eating the mic.

I remember that too. My mum was kinda perplexed by them :D

The best Cramps record ever, bar none. Saw them with the Fall and at the Lyceum many moons ago. They were wonderful but I grew out of them. Glad to hear there are a lot of people on here who appreciate them. Sad, although not entirely suprised to hear that Lux's body has thrown in the towel; he did ask a lot of it for a long time.

Cheers - Louis MacNeice
