Lunch around old street

yeah whitecross market is veh good

there is a new italian stall at the north end which is very good... and Warrins (sp?) is the best of the two thai stalls

just north from there in a little square (on the otherside of old street) near the Hawksmore church which has an ace German deli which does a proper hot dog (German sausage, bread, sauerkraut, mustard) for 2 quid

There is a nice Japanese place on old street roundabout (everything is half price after 5)

Viet hoa near Herbal on Kingsland road is also good (allthough prolly not the best vietnamese place there... I think further investigation on my part is needed)

slightly further afield, there is allways Sweet and Spicey on Brick Lane for top cheap curries.

Ooh, I was there at about the same time! I went into waitrose though, cos I'm a yuppie. Saving money tip: they do discounted ready to cook meat stuff (like stuffed chicken breasts) at lunchtime. £3 for two lamb rump steaks with herb crust.

we drive to that waitrose at weekends so we don't have to fraternise with the scum in dalston sainsburys.

i love that waitrose. it makes me all warm inside :)

The Shalimar is also pretty good for cheap & cheerful curry on Brick Lane...

a bit closer to Old St, the Rivington Deli on Rivington Street between
the Foundry and Charlotte Road is worth checking out when you're feeling flush... good & tasty but not cheap.

When I worked up at Old Street, me and my mates used to eat in the Aquarium pub. It's pretty gastropubby but the food was pretty tasty  :)

No idea what it's like now though.

I take it (and hope) your tongue is planted firmly in your cheek?

I'm slightly ambivalent about that Waitrose. I use it now and again as I work near there (and am well aware of all the nice stuff Waitrose has compared to other places...) but wonder about its utility to people who live there, as there are quite a few pensioners round and about who have little other option.

There's a decent fruit and veg stall on whitecross st. If cheap meat is required, then there's tesco near liverpool st - a 10 minutes walk away. Smithfield is rather close too.

there's a sommerfield just up the road on old street...

Dalston Sainsburys? Fookin' luxury! That's upmarket compared to us - you should try the Tesco on Morning Lane...
