Lucky Croydon to get its own Boxpark retail pop up

yeh but it's not really pop-up now it's apparently permanent. and have you noticed that on 'the apprentice' they always have some task based round that 'pop-up mall'?
I thought the pop-up nature of the shops related to their individual short-term leases, rather than the longevity of the venue.

yes. but that's a 1746 map, whereas the former metropolitan borough of shoreditch - the successor to the parish in the map you link to - did not include that within mb shoreditch - and as you can see on the lb hackney website (itself the successor body to mb shoreditch and the parish of shoreditch) it is within bethnal green. if you're going to use historical maps pls make sure they retain their relevance today or you'll end up using this sort of thing
Well, that's a neat way of pointing out that areas and their boundaries change over time. As you'll now find Shoreditch Boxpark bang in between Shoreditch High St station and Shoreditch High St itself it would be very hard to deny that it's definitely in Shoreditch regardless of the borough that administrates it.

that doesn't in fact follow. but while i am sure you and i find this little diversion interesting, another round of yes it is and no it isn't perhaps unedifying for observers.

Quick update

Deary me

That's actually looking a lot better than it did. However it's not exactly a hive of activity down there EVER. I've never seen anyone on site. You would think they would be going "shit, it's summer already and it looks nothing like the picture we promised".

Last I saw was end of summer to open. Cant see that even.

It's in the usual Croydon developers funding row I think.

Took this yesterday . Looking good for the summer 2016 open

Typical Croydon
No, typical developers, more like...
But slow progress with construction means that the private company, headed by entrepreneur Roger Wade, has this week confirmed that it won’t be ready to open until September, losing the whole of the valuable summer trading period.

Even that opening date could yet prove to be an optimistic estimate. A senior source familiar with construction activity on the site this week told Inside Croydon that Boxpark will “open in September only by the skin of their teeth”.

My daughter sees this as the spearpoint of gentrification and wants to tear it down.
Tbh the rate this seems to be going, and the rate that Zone 4 is becoming the new Zone 3 (which is the new Zone 2 etc) for prices, it's not going to make any difference by the time it arrives. Croydon will already have been gentrified.

Class info in the attachement; another total waste of money by a local authority who can't be bothered to check the companies credentials that they go throwing money at!

And, just like Pop Brixton, it's a fucking disaster with the council similarly deluded about its 'success'.

Boxpark Croydon made a loss of nearly £500,000 last year, according to accounts filed to Companies House.

The operation, renting space to independent outlets selling street food and staging music and other events in a collection of disused shipping containers next to East Croydon Station, opened in October 2016 thanks to a chunky loan from Croydon Council of £3million, plus another £180,000 grant of public cash towards its launch party.

Last week, Tony Newman, the leader of Croydon Council, during a council cabinet meeting presentation, referred to Boxpark as a “successful investment” by the council.

‘Successful investment’ Boxpark reports a £500,000 loss
