I suspect because he knew he'd be talking to a brick wall, and a brick wall that couldn't do anything about it. It would take a repeat of Obama with Democrats ruling both houses to get any legislation through, and even then so many millions of guns would remain in private possession that nutjobs would still go on sprees.

Brick wall or not its still a question that needs to be asked. But I can see that its beyond the imaginative scope of Americans at the moment.

I thought it was a good series. However, what was lacking was a core narrative thread that linked the three films together.

Because what the films showed - no jobs, no hope, dead futures, anomic communities, the lack of political representation, a sense of abandonment, the haunting of the past. Late capitalism in other words - cropped up every five seconds in all of the films. Whether the producers thought the point was obvious or whether they were too squeamish to make it I don’t know.

The Second Amendent is wrong. Loud and Clear and Simple. American constitution is rotten at the core. Louis did not mention gun control at all. Its not even a question. Horrible country, so angry at America.

But an equally relevant question is "why is it so bad here?" When gun crime is falling elsewhere?

Just watched the second one. I had no idea that women hand over all of the money they make like that.
I think he did a brilliant job of trying to understand the why of it , how come extremely vulnerable people can end up in relationships like that. Hardest thing I've watched for ages.

I thought the British anorexia one last night was much better than any of the three American ones, if "better" is a suitable word. I don't think I'd ever thought too much about the topic before, but all the various case studies were highly incisive.

A quick heads-up that they're showing My Scientology Movie tonight in the same slot. I think I preferred Alex Gibney's Going Clear, but Louis' version is still well worth watching if you were in any doubt as to the church's quality.

Quite interesting stuff, although Louis taking part in the food orgy was a bit pointless.

It seems odd that they started a three parter last night, as next week it's being postponed for the Remembrance Sunday stuff.
