I had the same issue with the BBC's radio commentaries when I lived in China. It was ironic, as most of the BBC site was blocked in China, except the radio, which worked fine. (and you could get around the PRC government blockage of the rest of the site quite easily with a proxy).
But, every time a game started on the radio, a stupid message came on blithering on about rights restrictions.
I never got that. After all, I can't imagine anyone else has the rights to broadcast premiership games in English in China.
