Lord Save me, I've moved to Brockley!!!

Jam Circus, by the way, is owned by the same crew who own the Dog Star - a Brixton tendril at the bottom of the road..............

I remember the naked mannequins poised by the traffic lights at the bottom of Honor Oak Rd....I think that's the name....the big hill that goes up to Honor Oak station. A veritable landmark ....probably long gone.

I did not willingly leave Peckham but was obliged to do so - I do not mean you to infer I was driven out by a band of pitchfork and firebrand waving locals like the end of a Frankenstein movie - by what is often referred to as "changed personal circumstances" - make of that what ye will, arr, Jim Lad, etc
Hope you're ok mate.

Brockley is fine, and, as you say, you're very close to your old stomping ground.

Rivoli got a film crew in it again yesterday, but it wasn't open at the weekend
Weird

Maggot yeah, I'm OK mate - can still reach one tree hill from here - just takes about 7 mins longer is all.....

Come down Lewisham Way side of Brockley and I'll shout you a pint at the Royal George, a proper old boozer.

When was that? They may have originated from my old house on Honor Oak Park.

Probably about 1988 ish and for a good couple of years after.....there was a secondhand shop on the crossroads by the lights...office furniture etc....and always about 5 or 6 naked mannequins draped against the filing cabinets. It did the trick...caught the motorists eyes as they queued at the lights I imagine. The first time I ever ate humous ( oh how cosmopolitan) was in a garden in Honor Oak park....brilliant party houses.

this page: http://members.lycos.co.uk/skitster/newpage4.html also has some juicy-ish brockley stuff

i do! - as it happens that was the first dub album i ever bought (i think its a french import cd - weird cover). I seem to remeber that when i read one of the lee perry biographies (people funny boy) it mentioned that album as being one of the albums incorrectly atributed to lee - i think it was the upsetters band with tubby. dont take my word for it though, but thats definitelt how i rememebr it.

there lots of wrongly labeled dub stuff out there - especially when the word "meets" is included! Lots of dodgey deals went on, people selling of one anothers work in different regions etc :) all good clean fun!

Talking dub + brockley, there used to be a cool hifi repair shop a couple of doors down from the barclays that sold stirctly UK dub albums + 10s... sadlyno longer with us.

*Oh, whatever you do dont buy a car from that second hand car place opposite barclays! how hes been able to keep that lot going all this time amazes me... pure dodginess....

*one more local food spot - a bit up the road in lewisham this one, but a "taste of lewisham" is the best meal you'll ever eat in london for under £4. Ask for the mini veg thali, and if youre with someone I recommend the thair vadai as a starter. Nice bunch of people who run it too..

One last thing, take a stroll down to honor oak park, and up on the hill with the allotments etc. nice walk/view

Theres a nice community project kicked off in the last year around here thats doing some good things (check out the state of the outside of HOP train station for some signs!)

If youre into stuff like growing your own veg and other back to earth stuff this is well worth a look

One of the thigns theyre trying is to turn a bit of wasteland into a big grow your own scheme, by the bag:

Indeed, if there's a better offy in S London I have yet to find it. I bought some wicked calvados there for my partner for Christmas, something the owners get direct from a farm in Normandy. Or something.

Unfortunately I have a horrible feeling I have drunk most of it. :o:o
