Has to be lunacy to text while driving.
I am glad he was jailed, perhaps he should face something extra after all someone was killed.

Maybe it'll send the message out to people that if they're going to imprison a Lord for texting at the wheel, there's no way they'll get off, and they'll probably get longer than 12 bloody weeks!

I assume by checking phone records against the actual time of accident according to witnesses and/or any CCTV.

I do so hope he gets what he really deserves from the other cons as justice has quite patently failed to have been done by the courts. A non New Labour arselicker would have got a much harsher sentence.

Use a knife or any other weapon to kill someone, intentionally or otherwise, get a minimum of eight years in prison. But kill someone using a motor vehicle you get twelve weeks...

It wasn't just saying there will be a march it was the inference that Ahmed was going to arrange a violent march. Big difference. BTW FYI I don't have problems with Muslims as individuals even though I disagree with the theology. I have a big and justified problem with Islamism. I don't play nice with people who want to kill or enslave me. Ahmed is just an apologist for Islamofascism.
It's inexcusable that the pillock was texting whilst driving. But I think the judge took into account that other cars had also hit Mr Gombar's car immediately before Lord Ahmed hit it and that he took steps to try and stop other traffic coming up at some risk to himself. There where other contributing factors as well.
IMO I think 12 weeks is too short for this sort of thing though, but that applies to all convictions of death through careless driving, not just this one. A driver is handling an object that has has much energy as a bullet, it is an inherently dangerous act to drive a car at speed and the driver should be paying attention at all times.

The only way is to take the car away on the spot and then force the culprit to attend a 5 hours lecture with colour photos of what it means to cause a fatal crash. After the £1000 fine is paid they can have the car back.

If there is any justice then he will lose his peerage. Its not as if he doesn't have a track record of being disreputable is it? I'm all for giving people slack for mistakes made but not on this occasion.

Yeah, I'm not sure about this, tbh.
Leaving aside the fact that Ahmed is a bit of a cock anyway, would he have got the same sentence if the accident hadn't happened and he was just caught texting? I somehow doubt it.
Yet the accident occurred 3 miles after he finished pissing about with the phone. At 60 mph that's a full 3 minutes he's been driving perfectly normally and he hits a pissed up driver that's already crashed and spun his car which has alread been hit by a previous vehicle.
The judge has accepted that there's no causal link between the texting and the accident.
I'll be interested to see how many people caught texting or on the dog down for 12 months. Because that's all this guy has done.
This sentence, if not harsh, is certainly inconsitent with sentencing for similar offences.

But Ahmed had his wife and mother in the Jaguar with him and he could have claimed that it was one of them, a non driver, who was texting on his phone. Perhaps he never was presented with the chance to make this deception, perhaps it would never have occurred to him, but he did not make this claim which is perhaps to his credit.
