If the US carries out its threat to bomb other Islamic countries then Bin Laden has won, there will be Jihad.
Though the world seems to think that wiser voices will prevail, under it all Dubbya still thinks "wanted, Dead or Alive"
Better make sure not to wear any black hats near him, I mean as we now know, he can spot a "bad guy" at 100 paces!
IF the UK, Spain, France, et al had taken the same view to "Terrorists" who attacked their capital cities, Irelan, Algeria, France itself(Spain has always accused France of not taking ETA seriously) would ALL have been bombed.
One at a time Dubbya, no need to bomb the whole planet yet surely?

Salaam,(meaning Peace in Arabic)

Hamza Yusuf is an Islamic scholar who advises Dubya. He is widely received and respected throughout the Islamic world. He advises against hijacking Islam by a discourse of anger and a rhetoric of rage.

From the BBC website:
Mr Yusuf believes that the West also has an obligation to recognise Muslim grievances, and recognise what he calls the "moral ambiguities" of the current situation.

"Portraying the Taleban as evil is very stupid," he said.

"They are by-products of the Cold War. They have been flooded with weapons from the West, and they're as much victims as the Twin Tower victims."

If anyone has a RealMedia player on their computer, please also listen to him on his call for understanding people. The link is on the same webpage. He really is a fantastic speaker.

Isn't that the bloke who had the FBI turn up at his house to arrest him for being a dodgy islamic intellectual - his wife said, no sorry he isn't in, he's with the president! Ooops!

He was R4 thought for the day guy this morning, or was it yesterday?
Either way, a subtle and accurate mind coupled with a genuine care for ALL people.
Good man.

So this discussion looks about over. PCS has argued that the Taliban are perfectly reasonable people, while well red claims human nature is a falacy, invalidating the fields of social science, behavioral science, political science, economics, marketing, advertising and feng shui. There's no arguing with logic like that.

As a final note on the topic of pursuit of happiness, another topic well red feels eminently qualified to pontificate about, I quote a speech before the The Manhattan Institute for Policy Research by V. S. Naipaul, a British citizen, born in Trinidad, and a Nobel fucking Prize winning author:

A later realization... has been the beauty of the idea of the pursuit of happiness. Familiar words, easy to take for granted; easy to misconstrue. This idea of the pursuit of happiness is at the heart of the attractiveness of the civilization to so many outside it or on its periphery. I find it marvelous to contemplate to what an extent, after two centuries, and after the terrible history of the earlier part of this century, the idea has come to a kind of fruition. It is an elastic idea; it fits all men. It implies a certain kind of society, a certain kind of awakened spirit. I don't imagine my father's parents would have been able to understand the idea. So much is contained in it: the idea of the individual,
responsibility, choice, the life of the intellect, the idea of vocation and perfectibility and achievement. It is an immense human idea. It cannot be reduced to a fixed system. It cannot generate fanaticism. But it is known to exist; and because of that, other more rigid systems in the end blow away.

Preach on, brother

'nuff said

Otto's pissed because we decided not to play along with his game of discussing Egypt. So up he pops again, like he has a spring up his bottom.

(PTOINGGGGGGGG!!!!!!)

I didn't know there was a Nobel Prize for fucking, but if Naipaul won it, good for him.
